I'm glad he's getting it done now, but it's 4 days late in my opinion. It made no sense for him to try and play on a torn meniscus and the sooner he got it done the greater the chance he could play in the 2nd round. Now, I don't think there's any way he comes back for a 2nd round series. We can beat Phoenix without him. I'm sure of it.
I agree. However, playing devil's advocate, many players play an entire season with a torn meniscus. There's nothing unusual about that. It just depends on the pain level. He rested it to see if the pain level would go down, but it didn't. Now here's a thought. I wonder if the fact we've been dropped in a bracket that is very favorable to us made him even have the surgery this soon? I mean, we have a 50/50 chance of making the conference finals out of this bracket and now he might be available for the conference finals, should we make them.
Was this post started late last night when you were drunk or early this morning when you were not quite awake? It is insane in several ways. The biggest reason is you do not rush and have surgery one day after you have an injury. Plus you don't rush your star player back after a surgery. 6 weeks is the end of May. The Blazers are not going to be playing at the end of May without Roy.
Neither. I've been out of town until this morning and this is the first post I could make on the subject. I thought he should have got it done Monday as I thought there is no way he would be effective with a torn meniscus. The sooner you get it fixed, the sooner you get back. I think he'll be ready in 4 weeks.
It is common to wait 4-5 days for the swelling to go down before doing surgery. Chris Paul did the same wait and there was no question whether he would have the surgery or not.
Exactly right. Nothing against you, tlong, but this board sometimes drives me nuts. If Brandon rushes into surgery a couple days after the injury (which seldom happens with an injury like this anyway) then some message board MD would bust him for not manning up for the team and trying to play on it before giving up on the season. On the other hand, if he waits to see how it feels in a few days because he's played with a torn meniscus before, then he gets second guessed for not having it done immediately. Couldn't we for once admit that nobody wants to play more than Brandon, nobody is more disappointed that he has to have surgery than Brandon, and that nobody on this board knows more about the situation than Brandon does? Maybe, just maybe, he's in a better position to make the call than we internet dufusses.
Well of course you are, MIXUM. No cloud in your world is too bright to have a dark lining waiting in the wings. BTW, check out an anatomy book sometime. The meniscus is considerably different from cartilage. A torn meniscus requires trimming. Damaged cartilage sometimes requires microfracture surgery. Brandon's issue is with the meniscus.
I really wish you'd stop posting the bad microfracture joke by magee on realGM as some type of etched in stone fact.
True, but it's not the articular cartilage at the end of the femur that, when damaged, is associated with microfracture surgery. You don't need microfracture surgery to repair a torn meniscus.
I like how microfracture has been thrown as an option on this board because magee on realgm made a joke on the Blazer board there, Mixum read it, then ran around with his head off here. As you said, torn meniscus does not equate OH MY GOD MICROFRACTURE SURGERY OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD. I just wish more people would realize this and stop paying attention to Mixum's self-serving attention whoring attempt to induce fear posts about this matter.
I swear to god if I hear one more person suggest MF surgery to repair a torn meniscus my head is going to explode. MF is a process of drilling holes into the bone to stimulate blood flow and a healing response in articular cartilage, the meniscus has no blood flow and when it's gone it's gone.
....So if the surgery is to trim part of the meniscus back, and Brandon is already missing 75% of his in that knee.... Suddenly I don't feel all that good about the long term health of our franchise player!
