First of all, great fucking win. Bayless after the game in the hallway was surrounded by a ton of family and friends. Gave me pounds and said, "That's how I roll!" Andre walked by and nodded..... that's it! No smile, laughing, nothin'! That cat is ALL BUSINESS! C-Frye pulled up to me in his Benzo next to the TV truck and slowly rolled his window down....... he was pretty bummed, but had a huge smile on his face and said, "Of course now that I'm gone you guys win!" And best of all, in the elevator back at the hotel, Nate had the biggest smile I've seen on his face in the 5 seasons I've been traveling with him and the team. I thought there was no way, and these guys stepped up.
We need more of this behind the scenes stuff from you, THE! Especially when these guys are on the road.
I don't really want to overdue do it. These guys need their privacy too. They should just pay me to blog and send Hodahl to the unemployment office. ( I joke, Casey is a cool guy).
Before the season I was afraid that Dre's aloof "all business" attitude was wrong for the Blazers, that a bunch of "friends" was what the team culture demanded. But I am happy to be completely wrong. Dre's focus is EXACTLY what the team needed. He and Camby have been through the wars, and Miller's "been there" posture is exactly the calming, business-like stature that a young team needs to get through games like last night.
I was really happy to see Bayless have a big time game on a big time stage after all of his second half of the season struggles. Dre', What can you say, that guy is just a baller, maybe last night's performance (especially if he follows it up 3 more times) will finally get him out of the first round and people will realize that sometimes good players are just that, regardless of playoff record. This series is still going to be a dogfight, and I'm not sure the Blazers should be favored to win the whole thing even with homecourt pushed to their side, but they're going to fight and claw and make sure the Suns pay for every inch of ground; I can't ask for anything more.
