    OK, so his legal name is "Amaré". With the accent.

    Why, though, does it have that accent?

    Does he pronounce his name "ah-mah-RAY"?

    Can I legally change my name to include a special character, too?

    LaMarcus is Spanish for "The Marcus". I hear you on the girl thing, though.

    Maybe she just wanted him to be LaMarcus.

    Yeah, but La is the feminine adjective, El is the masculine one. I really don't think that is a factor in non-Spanish-speaking people in naming their kids though...

    I'm guessing too many people made the 'e' silent when he was growing up. I'm not really sure UH-MAR-EE is much better than UH-MAR though.

    It's all just silliness, and looks even more ridiculous when media outlets put the ' before the e to simulate an e with an accent.

    I realize the difference between "el" and "la". I was joking.

    now when people are named things like la-a(pronounced ladasha), that is just silliness.
