I have to wonder next year if the Blazers become the Hornets or Jazz?

Which path do the BLazers take? Do they take the Hornets rout or the Jazz path?

Hornets - A team who made the 7th seed last year after being a top 4 team the year before. They then miss the playoffs and look like a team who is a bad mix of old and young. Could the BLazers end up this way? Miss the playoffs next year after barley getting in this year after coming off a great season last year? Very similar cases here since the hOrnets were darlings of the NBA for a while much like the BLazers. They both also have injury problems with their stars. Paul and Roy both see injury prone.

Jazz - A team who had TONS of injuries last season and made the 8th seed and got bounced quick in the 1st round looking awful. Then they dominate at times this year looking like a top 2 seed. They have the talent like the blazers when healthy to be very good.

So im asking (next year) do you see the BLazers taking either paths? I think both easily could happen.
We could take a major step back if we lose roy or if healthy we could be very good. With Houston, Hornets, and Grizz coming back strong.... playoffs are not a lock.

    2009-2010 Hornets miss the playoffs

2009-2010 Jazz make the playoffs and get a top 5 seed

    2010 - 2011 Blazers?????

It's a great question ... I'm going to have to think about this one for awhile.

There's no stability in NO's organization so I find it highly unlikely they end up like NO. They tried to trade Chandler at the deadline, who as we know, was great for them when they beat the Mavs.

The Blazers are definitely more like the Jazz and should continue to be a lock for the playoffs for the next 5-10 years. If everyone is healthy, a threat to win the west.

I think it all comes down to how healthly Portland is next season......the talent is there to be a top playoff team, but will the bodies be there at the end of the season. Adding Camby to the mix does help their chances along with what happens with Joel's contract (expiring) at the deadline or before.

no because for some reason people thought Posey was the missing key for a team to win the 'ship.....even though hes a bench player

Millers situation is totally different, hes a proven starter that produced in his first year in POR

    the truth is...

    1. Roy isnt a top tier star who has lots of minor injuries.

    2. LA is a 3rd option not a 2nd

    3. Oden was the wrong choice and is a bust

    4. Rudy is not a good player while batum has emerged as a stud defender with upside.

    5. Bench needs a facelift

    6. Bayless is a SG whos very average yet has no jumper to be a sg...

    7. Webster is the biggest enigma since the riddler

    8. Pryz is a nice trade chip next feb

    9. Our gm is getting fired

    10. nate has been dreadful this post season.

so rizzle... i d say the fucking glass has spilled and fallen on the floor smashing to pieces

I have to wonder how the Lakers would be doing against OKC if they had comparable injuries to the Blazers. Let's see: Kobe done until game 7 with a scoped knee, Bynum out for the entire playoffs with a knee injury, and Artest out for the rest of the series with a shoulder injury. Yeah, might make a difference to OKC's chances.

jazz will be a playoff team even without boozer.

hornets will be a 50/50 playoff team....

blazers will be somewhere in middle...

It's not a risk like Posey, who got a long term deal. Miller is a trade chip next season if he's not working out. He + Joel = $15 million in expiring deals.

It seems to me that the lesson that should have been learned from this season, if nothing else, is that the most significant factor in answering MIXUM's question is injuries. The Hornets likely beat out OKC this season if Paul is healthy. The Jazz, could easily have missed the playoffs if it had been Williams rather than Paul who missed a significant number of games. No matter who's on your roster, no matter who the GM is, no matter what deals are made, you can't do diddly if the injury bug bites hard.
