My wife and I just watched this movie (based on a true story). Pretty good. Nice date, popcorn material.
I visited the town in Japan where Hachiko lived -- he became quite a hero there. They even had a statue of him put up at the train station. The cynic in me wonders how much of that hero-building was an attempt by the Japanese government to push the "virtue" of lifelong loyalty and obedience onto their population, but the story of the dog himself is pretty heart-warming in a bittersweet kind of way.
Yeah, on the dvd's special features they said the statue is the most popular meeting place in all of Japan.
