Maybe I'm off on this, but it sure seems like there are a lot more thugs/gangstas in the league now then there was back in the day. Maybe there's more danger for all out brawls now then there used to be, because the players are more prone to bring guns into the locker room. (Semi TIC)
You just used a poor example. Bill Laimbeer was a whiny little bitch. If you had mentioned Charles Oakley, I would have mostly agreed. However, in terms of physical play 1970s > early 90s > Today.
*Agreed - Todays game was a little more physical than the 1st three but nothing like they use to be and if the Blazers advance past this round the games will only get more physical. Strider
Try to find the backstory on the Chris Mills incident stopped by Stacey Augman. Kenny Vance talked about it once, and it was hilarious. BTW, if this stuff was allowed to be settled on the court, then the anger wouldn't spill over. You let some steam off during the game, everyone gets their piece of flesh and you play another day.
The league doesn't have the balls to suspend a Phoenix player in the playoffs after the cheap shot Bob incident. Not that I think Amare deserves to be suspended for that elbow (the one against LaMarcus? Yes). I do find it strange how KG and Amare both have tried to (or are trying to) punk LaMarcus. He needs to retaliate by doing the exact same thing thee do against him. btw, imho, Amare is the biggest coward in the NBA outside of KG. You notice he didn't try that with Juwan or Marcus Camby. Hate on Karl Malone as much as you want, he didn't care who you were. Isiah Thomas, David Robinson, it didn't matter. Although it was great when someone finally stood up to his punkass ways. We just need this teams Brian Grant to stand up to Amare. Not sure who that is, or if he'll play in the series.
I mentioned both before your post. But that's cuz I'm drunk, sitting outside your window, and I type faster than you. So as soon as I saw you type Oakley, I dropped that name.
I still am waiting for Juwan to just throw someone down - him running into Amar'e in the game was a start, but I mean a full, real hard foul.
I agree. If Sheed had been allowed to deck that ref during the game, he wouldn't have gone after him in the parking lot, and would have never been suspended 7 games.
Please don't tell me you're talking about the time when they were running down court, and Amare flopped, and Juwan was hit with a foul. Cuz that was all artistry on Amare's part, not intimidation by Juwan.
Luke would have cold cocked him. But like you said - he would not have had to because nobody f*cked with Luke after his first few years.
Chauncey Billups did that very thing to Deron Williams early in the first quarter of game 3. Billups was on a fast break, Williams stepped in front of him and Chauncey dropped his shoulder like Adrian Peterson into a defensive back and sent Deron flying. Chauncey knew he was going to get an offensive foul, but it was more important to send a message to Williams.
Malone was a man about it, he wanted to punish you on every play. He never backed down, of course when your fists are the size of cantaloupes you can be a tough guy. I once had a tour of the Blazer practice facility with Jerry or Gerry can't remember the spelling(red head dude). He told us that when Karl Malone would come in with the Jazz to workout, he would jog around the court with 100lbs dumbbells in each hand, that dude was sick strong.
LOL - That's funny except Sheed is a punk. All he does is bitch and moan and occasionally lie on the floor and throw a fit like a 2 yr old.
Noted, and he's on the way over to your house at this very moment. Joking aside, there were times when Sheed lost it briefly, and came to, regained composure, and then tore out the opponent's heart. Unfortunately, as time wore on, he lost his ability to regain his composure. That, or he just really didn't care.
Okay. My take is that anything meant to injure should be out of bounds. Obviously, going for a career kill shot is much worse, there are degrees. But a player trying to achieve a re-injury on another player is in the category and it strikes me that that's what Amare was going for.
Wait.. the "elbow" where Amare slightly brushed Batum on the shoulder? To me, there is no visual evidence to show that it was even on purpose.
You mean the play where he walked right into Batum's right shoulder while "adjusting" his goggles? It was on purpose. Even Amare would admit it.
