Well, we have Juwan. But I really don't think we need a dirty player. Just tough ones.

I don't consider that dirty. He was sending a message to Scola. Gotta set the tone that you're not going to take cheap shots or any chippy behavior.

How was Fisher's play anything other than a cheap, dirty shot at a guy who was helpless? He clearly saw Scola coming to set a screen, so he cocked back, and put all his energy into that elbow. The fact that he didn't get suspended or even ejected is baffling to me.

because it's not as if he did something out of the normal realm of a basketball play. It's not like he under-cut someone, or hog-tied or horse collared him.

It's funny that if a player setting the screen knocks a player on his ass, we like it. But if the defender knows it's coming and doesn't wilt to the fact a player is coming, it's bad?

Not in my book. You send messages with screens, because it's much harder to get seriously injured in those, in the way that Fisher set the pick. He wasn't going out of his way to hurt Scola, just sending a message. If you are going out of your way to hurt someone, i.e., swinging an elbow or purposely walking into a player with your elbow, that's a dirty play.

Getting yourself set for a pick by doing it stiff? Not dirty, imho.

I'm not down with dirty, but I keep expecting one of our guys to throw a nice double forearm jab to the back of Grant Hills neck when he's full court pressing Andre. Don't you think that might relax that press a bit? hard to press full court when you're wondering when the next shot to the back of your head is coming...

Did Michael Jordan dominate because he layed people out on screens? Did he swing elbows? Was he hurting the other team physically?

You can dominate without cheap shots or trying to play extremely physical. The object of the game is to put the ball in the basket more than the other team, that's the only thing you need to worry about doing.

Steve Kerr might have a difference of opinions as to whether or not Michael Jordan ever sent messages with physical play.

No, but the Detroit Pistons were able to delay the start of the Jordan domination era by implementing the Jordan rules...

It's a long lived fact that the way to take a player out of his game is to continue to hit and hit him hard. As soon as said player starts thinking about where the next shot is coming from, he's consentrating less on getting to the hoop, putting the ball in the basket, or playing close man to man pressure defense. And the beauty is all can be done without taking a cheap shot.

Jason Richardson was 6-16 shooting and 2-8 on threes lastnight. There was a stretch where he took 3 hard fouls in a row.

    ....Just saying

I dont view it any more "dirty" than The assistant coaches telling Oden to lead with his knee "a la Mailman" when someone takes a charge. You are getting a foul called on you, but it sends a message. And they will think about it for sure next time they try and do the same thing.

Juwan has put the wood to the Suns on a couple of instances. I don't like dirty players, but hard fouls and physical play is good.
