I was looking for the box scores from the Blazer's playoff runs from 90-92. I remember those battles with the Suns,Jazz and Spurs. Obviously back then there wasn't websites and forums like this where fans could go overboard after a Blazer win or become near suicidal after a loss. I also remember the BLOWOUTS on both sides. I could have sworn in the Suns series in 92 we took turns blowing each other out. The Laker/Celtic rivalry of the mid 80's was also riddled with mismatch final scores. I think that's what made that Bulls-Celtics matchup from last year so special. It's all about the adjustments each team makes, here's to PHX not making any tomorrow!
In 1990 Portland lost to the Spurs by 23, 10, and 15 and the Suns by 35 and 12 during the playoffs, ultimately winning both series. Portland's wins against the Spurs were by 13, 10, 6, and 3, and against the Suns it was 2, 1, 6, and 3. Both opponents in both series ended up scoring more points overall.
WOW! I thought we had some blowouts in there, but I guess not. As long as you score more the the other team right? Tell that to some people in here! Looks like we did know how to get our ass kicked though. Interesting, puts a little perspective on our current playoff run.
There was another game in the Phoenix series where we were losing by 20 something (at home) and came back and won. That was a really, really good offensive team. In a way it's sort of similar to this years series.
ROFL! I love this forum sometimes. The ironic, satirical statements of one side against the other is fan-fucking-tastic.
Just wanted some people on here to step back and acknowledge a win or loss is just one game. Porter the other day in an interview said that one of the reason those teams succeeded was because they knew how to put a loss behind them whether it was by 20 or 1 and on the flip side a 20 point win wasn't worth 2 wins!!! A seven game series is a marathon baby.
At the time, wasn't that the biggest playoff comeback ever? I seem to remember Petrie and Schonley going on about that.
I was at all of those games in 90 thru 92. I remember the game we came back against Phoenix. I think Petro played well if I remember correctly. That was a great team. I think our team now can surpass them though.
to that! With B-Roy back were back in business no matter how much he contributes, his presence changes everything. Lets Go Blazers!
Nice research, Entity. I remember Phoenix/Port games going back and forth. One team would be up 15 and then the other team would be up 15. Crazy games.
