I agree. Rudy is a lost cause. His confidence is shot. I don't see any reason giving him minutes. Rotate Bayless/Miller/Roy heavy minutes, deactivate Rudy, and have Diener available. I'm not sure Rudy could play in the NBDL right now.
You wanna know what the problem was? He was playing SF. He sucks as a SF. The SF in Nate's plays stand out on the perimeter and wait for the SG/PG to make something happen, and on defense, he's stuck guarding their larger SF instead of their SG. Roy sucked at this position when Nate was running the three-guard lineup at the beginning of the season, and he sucked at it last night. It's a bad place for Roy to be. Start him for Game 6 and you'll see a better Roy.
Roy needs to play better if he wants more minutes. He doesn't look ready. Hopefully that changes in game 6,but based on games 4 and 5, I really don't like what I've seen.
This is a game called "Who has a thread saying he should be bannished, and who has one where posters say he should start." 1. 20.2 mpg 2. 23.0 mpg 1. .333 fg% 2. .353 fg% 1. .353 3pt% 2. .250 3pt% 1. .833 ft% 2. .500 ft% 1. 1.4 apg 2. 0.5 apg 1. 1.6 rpg 2. 1.0 rpg 1. 0.2 spg 2. 0.0 spg 1. 0.8 topg 2. 0.5 topg 1. 5.0 ppg 2. 7.5 ppg 1. 7.13 PER 2. 3.25 PER
Thanks Coach. Meanwhile, Roy is going to get his minutes on Thursday, and if he plays well people like you will cheer him and call him a warrior who just wants to win. If he plays poorly, people like you will say he shouldn't have played at all, and some will say it is proof that he is selfish and only cares about himself. I'll just watch the game and enjoy it, either way.
The reason he's @ SF is because of his knee injury. No way he can play SG defensively right now, he's get burnt. The guy doesn't have the same explosiveness and lateral quickness right now to be the same SG Portland knows. You can't have Roy guarding Barbosa or J-Rich when he's in or else he's going to use 6 fouls trying to prevent lay-ups right now. Offensively, it is probably better he is in the corner as he's a good shooter and can't really be the workhorse you expect.
MM- you're being an assclown. There is no way we win Game 4 without Roy. He gave the team a big emotional lift and he hit the two clutch shots in the 4th quarter. Without those two shots, we lose. Rudy wasn't going to take or make those shots. Even if Roy were to have a mediocre game 6, that is wayyyy better than Rudy being out there.
Give Brandon (-19 for the series) ALL of Jerryd's minutes (-43 for the series), and play Rudy (-30 for the series) his normal role. Our team consistently sucks when Jerryd plays and it's amazing how nobody seems to notice how badly we get outscored with him out there. For all his energy and going 1-on-3 (getting no call) all the time, he's too short to guard anyone and he's never found a pick he can get past. He's never stopped anybody. But seriously, Nate's making the same mistake as last year. He needs to play everybody, and sub often, then we have the energy to run with these guys and defend them. When he tightens the rotation, he makes us weaker.
MARIS- someone has to score points and Bayless is giving us 14 a game to go with 3 assists and he is shooting 42% from the three point line. I have no idea why you would want that guy off the floor. Rudy is shooting horribly, playing defense horribly. How does it help us to replace one of our top three scorers with a guy who could care less about scoring? Your +/- stat does not mean that Rudy is a better defender. Rudy doesn't try and leaves his man to get wide open layups under the basket. Honestly, if you were the coach, and your livelihood were on the line, would you play Rudy ahead of Bayless (one of only three guys who can put the ball in the basket consistently) in Game 6?
Well this is why he is not a coach, instead of getting blown out by 20 with very little Rudy, it would have been by at least 60 with Rudy playing more minutes. He has no concept of the game of basketball.
While you're misuing stats why don't you go ahead and adjust those to a per minute average. Rudy has quite possibly been the least effective rotation player I've seen in the playoffs in ten years ... a shooter who doesn't shoot, and a guy who plays zero defense. Jerryd has his flaws, but at least he's giving effort and is producing something on offense.
