Should the Blazers try to pursue Chris Bosh? A bunch of teams can throw free agent money at him, but it's in his (he gets more money) and Toronto's interests to do a sign-and-trade. Dallas will almost certainly target him, but they don't have youth to offer. We, on the other hand, can offer Aldridge and Rudy, the latter of whom might have more value to Toronto because of their "collect every Euro in the NBA because Americans are scared of Canada" policy, as a starting point. Would Toronto go for it? Would Bosh agree to it (he'd be out of the limelight, and New York, NJ and Miami will all try to pair him up with a "superstar")? Should we do it? I used to think that Aldridge was better for us: taller, better defender, more versatile. I still think Aldridge matches up better with, say, Pau Gasol. But I really do want somebody who brings it more often. Bosh will know McMillan from Team USA. But then, he'll also know D'Antoni...
Sure thing. Doubt it happens, but Toronto said they're willing to play ball with Bosh. Nothing? or Aldridge and Rudy? Still, it'd be awful to plan to rebuild with Bargs and Aldridge up front.
Cap-wise, because of Aldridge's BYC status, I think we'd also need to include Joel to make numbers work. I'd still do it. I imagine that Bosh would have no interest in coming here, so I doubt it matters.
Pull the trigger. Event throw in a little bit more if needed. Run of the mill players are a dime a dozen and easy to replace.
I think Toronto and Portland both might be willing, but like Ptldplatypus says, I don't know if Bosh would be willing.
How is Bosh doing in the playoffs this year? I'm not saying he wouldn't be an improvement, but how does he fit into this team?
That may sound like a bargain compared to re-signing Bosh. IIRC, his contract's paying him $17 mil per year this season.
Assuming Bosh got the max salary(yikes), I am almost certain his first year would be right around 16.6 million(105% of this season's salary). At BYC, Aldridge would be 5.8(greater of 50% of new salary, or last year of previous salary, so this season's number). So we immediately get there with Joel(7.4)(or REALLY close). And we get close if it's Aldridge, Webster(4.8), Bayless(2.2). I wonder if Bosh could be talked into taking slightly less than the max? A 6 year, 117 million dollar deal(again, yikes), would start at 15 million per year in the first season. With yearly 10.5% raises, 15, 16.6, 18.3, 20.2, 22.4, 24.7. In order to get a S&T at that amount, Aldridge, Webster, Rudy equal 11.8. We'd need to add one extra piece, or see if we can negotiate an even slightly lower starting salary for Bosh. 6 years, 116,450,000 roughly contract. Starts at 14,864,383, which works financially with a deal for Aldridge, Webster and Rudy. Again, that's if they wanted another piece other than joel. Or, if we want to use Joel in a seperate deal. I'd prefer this way, so we can use Joel in a trade for another player, and possibly still use the MLE also.
Bosh is a far superior player to Aldridge on either end of the floor, and his defense is sometimes underrated because he plays with teammates that are so bad on that end. He has all the fundamental tools to be a beast. I'd definitely try to get him, but would TOR take back a guy like Aldridge, with his contract? Colangelo even referenced Aldridge's contract when getting some critical questions in his post season interview about Bargnani's contract. He said something like Aldridge gets only 2.8 more rebounds per game, but is paid $15 million more.
What if we could throw an expiring of Andre (cause of the team option) if we had another deal set up to get Collison as well? Not sure if numbers work but I would do a combination of expirings of Joel, and Andre to include with Aldridge and Rudy if it would net us Bosh and Collison.
I really don't think adding Rudy to the trade sweetens the deal. I assume the Toronto GM can see our playoff games just as easily as we can. Anyway, Aldridge/Przybilla/spare parts for Bosh kind of makes sense to both teams. Aldridge will probably hate it, but he doesn't really get a choice in the deal. Toronto isn't going to get a big man stud of similar quality to Bosh. If they want somebody to help start rebuilding, Aldridge is not a bad option. It's an even worse rebounding team than before, though, so maybe it doesn't make sense....
Rudy can be an asset to them in that they can see our games, but also see our team utilization, and believe they can utilize Rudy more effectively. I'd say he's mroe an asset to them than Joel is. I'm still not overly thrilled with the diea of Collison, especially at the expense of Miller, personally.
but what if he was needed to get Bosh? And using Joel and whatever to get Collison? Thats how I try and look at it.
What if who was needed? Miller? I can't see how, with Calderon there for 9 a year for 3 more years, and Jack at 5, that they woudl demand Miller in return for trading Bosh, and have 7 MORE million at the PG position. MAYBE Joel over Rudy and martell, just so they can have his insurance paid(possibly) expiring. Joel can be used to get Collison, if we took on Posey, I assume. But I hate the idea of having to pay Posey for Collison. Posey's worthless at this point, so you're paying Collison roughly 8 million the next two seasons. Miller or Collison for the next two seasons? I'll take Miller. Collison showed he could put up some good looking stats when Paul was out. In an offense designed specifically for that nature. What does Collison look like here, alongside Roy? 13 and 6 type of player? Without the veteran leadership and game management we get from Miller.
