The US Open Cup has started and it seems there's a different format this time around. I believe it used to really be an open cup for any professional team to enter, but after years of MLS domination, they have shifted it a bit to get the 2nd division sides some guaranteed spots in the later rounds. Anywho, last night New York Red Bulls defeated Philadelphia Union 2-1 on a brace from rookie and formerly "nationally ranked" Conor Chinn. Turns out he was a pretty serious player and ended up at the University of San Francisco where he shattered scoring records for the team and also the conference he was playing in. I'll keep an eye out for more Open Cup news.
