Jaime Garcia pitched his way into the Cardinals’ starting rotation in spring training. He’s pitching now like he wants to stay there.

Garcia tossed seven shutout innings against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday night, lowering his ERA to 1.04 in four starts, as the Cardinals beat the Braves, 6-0, at Busch Stadium.

The Cardinals, who won their fourth-straight overall and third-straight against the Braves, will look for the rare four-game sweep on Thursday afternoon.

But Wednesday night was all about the rookie Garcia, who used 12 ground-ball outs, five strikeouts and four fly outs to get through seven innings unscathed. He allowed just four hits and walked one.

“Ever since I was in spring training when I was fighting for a spot, I said this is going to be my year,” Garcia said. “I’m going to come in here and do my best and try to enjoy every time I go out there and try to have fun and try to learn a lot. So far it’s been good and the only thing I can do right now is keep learning from these guys and try to have fun and enjoy it.

“I was able to keep the ball down and it was moving a lot. I was able to get ground balls when I needed them. …I felt really good the whole game.”
