As well all know, Andersen was banned from playing in the league this year after violating the league's drug policy. He is out for the next 2 years. In 2 years, he can come back into the league and play. If you a GM or coach of a team, do you sign and give Andersen a chance at making your team? Reason 1ersonally, i dont think i would. He wasnt banned because he smoke a little weed, he was banned becuase he was using some drugs that are considered significantly worse. Cocaine, meth, heroin, etc. I dont think i want someone with a bad rep being assosiated with my team and having an influence on my young players. Reason 2:He wasnt that great of a player to begin with. Yes he was/is an adequate backup in the league, but i can think of a ton of players just as talented, but without the baggage. Plus he'll be 30 or 31 years old. He's not going to be getting any better. Those are my reasons, but i still believe some GM or coach will take a chance on him. Not sure if they'll bank on the chance or if they'll miss though.
Like you said he wasn't just tokin up every now and then he was using serious felony drugs. Not worth it. Those drugs are 1000% harder to kick than smokin pot.
No way. Here's why.#1-After 4 or 5 years, he was never a good player anyway#2-Fans would dog on him for his drug incident, he would get so much public scrutiny. I doubt he could handle it#3-When anyone doesnt play for 3 years, it takes a lot of time for them to get back. He would have to work very hard for him to even attempt a comeback.Sorry Chris, but you just screwed your career over. He's 29 by the time he gets back too.I think its safe to say that we wont have to watch Birdman stink up the dunk contest again.
I would probably sign him to a low-risk short term contract. He was a decent player, very athletic, and i'm sure he'd be working hard for his second chance.and CB4, you don't know what you're talking about, fans wouldn't dog him for that. Even if they did, i'm sure he could handle it. And just bc he can't play on a team doesn't mean he can't play. Just talk to Tim Thomas.
Yeah, i agree with nba dogmatist about the fans not dogging him. I dont think that would happen. All Andersen would have to do is apoligize for his actions in the past. Just look at Giambi. He did steroids and apoligized and everyone forgave him. I still stand by what i said earlier though, even though that piont didnt help me make my decision.

I don't think any team would take a chance on him. He screwed up his career using drugs, it's sad to see a player's career getting ruined by drugs. His best bet would be to play over sees in Europe. He might get a shot for a really bad team for a really cheap contract
I meant the fans around the NBA. Everyone would crack jokes about him and hate him for what he did. Look at what happened to Kobe Bryant. Quite a few people hate him now.
but Kobe Bryant was and is a star, they hate him mainly because they think his actions are hubristic. Chris Anderson isnt a star so they'll just think of him as a screwed up individual.
He would definately get sh*t for being banned from the League for 2 years. A lot of people already didnt like him for his dunk contest "performances". The guy would get a lot of hate. He probably wouldnt be able to play when he already wasnt that good to start with. 2 years without playing will make him the League's Rafael Araujo.

They would tell jokes about him? come on, he's not 12 years old. I think he can handle it. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (CB4AllStar @ May 13 2006, 01:12 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>He would definately get sh*t for being banned from the League for 2 years. People have no reason to hate on him. like fab said, kobe was hated bc he is a star. The off the court incidents were more like an excuse for ppl to hate him. The league's Rafael Araujo? was that supposed to be funny? like i said before, just bc he can't play in the league doesn't mean he can't play. He can still stay in shape and work on his game.
He will definatly be back in the league when the ban is up, everyone gets multiple chances in the NBA.
Dude, he has sucked this whole year. Of course he would sick with 2 years without playing in the League. What do you expect him to come out with a 14 and 8 season?

He's a bigman who can come off the bench, teams will pick him up.
I don't think you do. He's really nothing special of a player. You can make up for him, however it is tough nowadays to find pure hustlers
I wouldnt be surprised if someone offered him a camp invite or offered him a preseason or summer league spot. I dont think anyone will offer him a contract untill he proves he can play well again and that he has changed..
Is he banned from basketball in general, or just the NBA? If just the NBA, then I bet he would play in Europe or somewhere where he can play still. I expect him getting training camp invites, and maybe a couple 10 day contracts, but he will never be in a teams rotation again.
I wouldn't take a chance with him. He was never really good and he is not worth the risk let alone the money.
It all depends on Birdman himself if he can make it back in the league. He first has to prove he can contribute in someway after 2 years, keep practicing, stay off the drugs and continue his conditioning. If he does none of that, and sits on his ass, no way a team will pick him up. Anything can happen in 2 years, this topic is too early.
