http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/04/28/louisiana.oil.rig.fire/index.html?hpt=T1 glad we don't have these off the oregon coast!
Hey, what happened to all those supporters of off-shore drilling? The latest I heard on BBC news, is that is likely to be the worst oil spill in history. Come on, DRILL BABY DRILL, RIGHT?!?!
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/10/us/10westvirginia.html Shit Happens. Until there is an absolute best way to get fuel, there will be accidents and disagreements.
The explosion happened 9 days ago, they just recently stopped looking for the 11 people on the rig, and already one of the families has brought forth a lawsuit? Damn people act fast.
and you don't have to worry about those shitty blue fin tuna whose main spawning ground is in the gulf of mexico!
I'm not against drilling for oil, I just think we should drain the rest of the world first before tapping into our reserves. The last country with oil wins!
Tuna in the can absolutely tastes better with a bit of dolphin in it. And bald eagle tastes like chicken.
I love how folks here are like "drill baby drill" yet the US doesn't even have th oil reserves to even put a pinprick in the oil prices. But hey, it's the thought that counts..... Lets just fuck up our environment because it sounds like a good idea until you actually do the math. You know, math. The class you didn't pay attention to in school, because if you had, you would realize how fucking stupid it is to try and solve our fuel problems with domestic drilling.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. This is bigger than the spill in Valdez and will affect more people. It's disappointing to see people's selfish attitudes: "Oh, well Valdez got shat on. I need oil so I don't care." "Just another huge oil spill that will kill countless animals and cause hardships to thousands of people. Get over it and drill me some more oil!" "ANOTHER oil spill? We need to fix the process, make it cleaner, safer." Guess what, there are already countless and redundant safety regulations. This is not a freak accident that can be attributed to a drunk guy. It is an inherently risky process. It will happen again.
There have been some very large oil deposits discovered in and off shore of the USA that would make a huge difference if brought into full production. Even if we were able to satisfy all of our own oil needs why should we? It doesn't matter if the oil is pumped from the USA or somewhere else in the world, it's still going to cost the same price. The sooner we buy and use up other countries oil reserves the more valuable and vital ours become in the future. Also I tend to count Canada's oil reserves as ourstoo. Remember, we are only an Iraq sized invasion away from making Canada our biatch.
Personally I've always preferred tuna packed in oil over the tuna packed in water so I don't see this being much of a problem.
