No votes for Roy in MVP voting

But Chris Bosh did. Get us Bosh, please. Bosh and healthy Roy will advance. I think Roy would've gotten votes if he hadn't strained his hamstring.

In other news, Kobe didn't get a single first place vote.

 

Roy was hurt a lot this year and was not the same player he was last year. He did not deserve to be the the MVP discussion...

 

Bosh probably got one from the same homer that voted for Bargiani for rookie of the year.

Roy did not deserve to be mentioned in the MVP conversation, whatsoever.

 

Neither did Bosh.

 

But he lead his team to the lottery. Surely that has to count for something!

Roy doesn't play enough defense to be considered for MVP consideration in my opinion (Just like I thought Nash and Dirk should never have been voted MVP).

Even if he stays fully healthy he's got to commit himself to that end of the floor before he should even be mentioned in the same breath as Kobe, Durant, and Lebron.

Let's leave Durant off that list for the time being. He's still in the Dirk/Melo category if defense rather than Lebron/Kobe.

 

In his first two seasons I'd definitely agree, this year? He had a defensive rating of 104, averaged 1.5 steals and 1 block per game, and if you don't like those stats his adjusted plus-minus at the defensive end of the court was -2.7 points per 100 possessions better when he was on the court.

He's plenty good at defense.

(for the sake of comparison Lebron had a defensive rating of 102, Kobe's was 104, while Melo's was 109)

 

Sorry, I can't trust any stats that rate Melo that high on defense. Lebron and Kobe are 1st team All-NBA defenders that can lock down opposing players. I've never seen Melo or Durant play on-ball defense like they are able to.

 

bosh absolutely deserved to be in the mvp conversation. they have to vote for 5 guys. bosh got a single 5th place vote. he was 4th in the league in PER so getting at least one top 5 vote makes sense.

only one player deserve to get any consideration for a first place vote, but other guys have to get votes as well.

 

Melo has actually gotten better in the last couple of years (mostly since Chauncey came on board) and Durant went from a non-performer at the defensive end to a "pretty good" on ball defender this season (opponent PER of about 11.5), he's still gotta take that next step to consistently guarding the other team's best wing for more than just a few possessions in the fourth quarter.

Bosh is 4th in PER, but you're forgetting what PER doesn't measure. You should cross reference the other metrics because Bosh is not a great defender. He's not an MVP type player yet, win shares were a little low.

 

I disagree. Serious MVP candidates, at the very least, should be on a playoff team.

I disagree with your opinion. Bosh did not deserve a single MVP vote IMO, and since this thread specifically references that vote, it is relevant to the discussion at hand.

 

That's up for debate, there are various players at or around Bosh on a Win Share level.
