    Try now.
PDA's should now be detected and the site displayed in a low-bandwidth style that allows for posting. Down the road we can customize it further, but this should add functionality and reduce illegible stuff on small screens. Works fine on my Blackjack and wife's iPhone.

Oh jeez... That's horrific. Just remove the ads and default the right column to hidden. That "mobile" solution makes me wish I never had even gotten you guys involved.

    LOL

I have to try out the mobile detection stuff on my phone today and see how bad it is ;-)

If we do a mobile app, my hope is that it's free.

What are you running? I can set different templates for different phones. I like the lo-res version functionality-wise on my blackjack. The default style took forever and was absolutely impossible. Given a little time I should also be able to customize it a fair amount.

However, the default actually rendered perfectly on the iPhone, so I guess we could go back to that for iPhones and whatever you're using. I'm working all day today, but hopefully tomorrow or the next day I can spend some more time trying to strike a better balance.

Is there some sort of update I need to get rid of the lag on my work computer?

No problem. OK, iPhone should now display the "normal" front page, but without the sidebar on the right. Can't dig out the ads from the default template though :|

I should be able to dig them out of the mobile template, which, by the way, I made slightly more appealing by making it automatically send you to the forums page instead of forcing the user to click to go there.

Okay, so now it looks "normal" but there's a couple differences from what you describe:

1 - there's no first post ad (yay!)
2 - the right column does appear and stays expanded. (boo!)

    So far so good!

No, its a new computer with Windows 7 that works great with everything else.

I went to "settings -> general settings -> and changed to "Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing" and the "portland trail blazers" forum skin and it seems to work much better now.

Aha! Everyone should use the Full WYSIWYG interface, IMO.

I wouldn't have thought to ask you if you weren't running it ...

And yes, the ad and funky big white space in the first post of a page of a thread is gone!

I haven't read this whole thread, but I'm pretty frustrated with the new design of this board. What was wrong with the old design? I hate the narrow post width, and the gap between a quote and the top of the post, and the menu along the right side of the screen. If things don't become more readable, I may be out of here.

Click the >> on the right edge of the page, the right column goes away.

I don't know what you mean by narrow post width and gap between quote and top of post. See attached image - that's what I see.

What browser and OS are you using?

I clicked on the arrow you indicated, and the sidebar posts went away. That also solved the narrow width problem of my posts. However, there is still a large empty space between the top of my post and my actual message when I quote someone else. You have to scroll down to see the quote.

    I'm using Windows XP.
