I think it's starting to boil down to this: whatever a person is overly moral about, they're probably doing it. I'm overly moral about having sex with female models.

First, I'm a hypocrite because I find the thought of two men together repulsive, but the thought of two women together highly erotic.

Second, I have a very dim view of people who parade against or for something and then do the opposite. Like the enviromentalists who are now suddendly against wind power, bio mass, recycling, hybrid vehicles, managed forestry... because they won, and now as the victors and without fights to fight they have lost their money and power base. So, to keep the money coming in they have to be against all they once stood for. And this bozo is no different. Actually, he makes me sick.

What makes it even worse is that he lied about it all. He was caught red handed (there's a pun in there somewhere, I just know it) and then lied. That makes it even worse. A lot worse.

Out of sheer morbid curiosity: for those of you of the homosexual persuasion, how does news like this make you feel? For all the "PC-ness" going around, it still seems like this subject is treated as a partial taboo by many...does this make you feel vindicated? Sad for someone who also is homosexual but can't talk about it? Wanting to help a confused person? Happy that the issue gets more out there and people become aware? Angry that some of the best-known homosexuals are hypocrites, or that they're portrayed somehow as criminal?

I mean, of all the "scandals" about public figures, it seems that "caught doing gay things when you're not open about it" ranks right up there as one of the worst things you can do for your career. Edwards cheated on his wife and lied about the resulting baby's paternity for 2 years...Cheney shot someone in the head and still stayed VP...some guy taps another guy's foot in a bathroom in an airport and he's vilified. Blago was indicted for corruption, fraud and bribery--and stayed as governor for the rest of his term and is on Celebrity Apprentice. What is it about sexuality that makes people vilify these people so much?

Although I am fully of the heterosuxual persuasion, I think the answer is that the majority of people consider Homosexuality, especially in men, as morally wrong- Or at least a waste of male sexuality as there are so many women and so little time. Therefore, it naturally follows their personal biases play out against such people and they are villified even to a greater extent. As an example, is Sam Adams the first politician to lie in a political race and pull the Politically Correct Card against others? Of course not. But, when his particular lie comes back as a 40 year old male pursuing a 17 year old male, then his lies become so much more magnified than most other politicians.

Is that right? Probably not, but it's the way it is.

As the old saying goes: The worst thing that can happen to a male politician is to be caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy.

Leaving aside the necrophilia/pedophilia part of that joke, it comes down to differences. 50-60 years ago, the joke probably would have involved interracial sex. Sex is a hot button issue in this nation, moreso than in Europe (probably largely due to the Puritan influence that founded the nation) and when you combine it with the natural (though, happily, slowly changing) instinct to distrust/vilify difference, it creates a bad PR cocktail (pun intended).

If we are to respect differences in others, do we respect those who feel homosexuality is morally wrong? Or are those people excluded because they don't agree with those who feel otherwise?

    Hello darkness, my old friend
I think respecting innate differences (differences intrinsic to who we are, which I consider to be things like race, gender, sexuality) is important. Beliefs and ideas are not the same thing, as far as I'm concerned. If I believe, for example, that all Christians should be exterminated....I don't think anyone should respect that belief. Tolerance does not imply having to "tolerate intolerance" to be consistent.
