"His swing. That's what the opposing teams talk about when they see Brennan Boesch. The swing.

Texas manager Ron Washington raved about it to me after he watched Boesch play the first two games of his Tigers career.

On the first pitch Boesch saw in the big leagues, two weeks ago tonight, he doubled high off the opposite-field wall in Texas.

In his next series, Boesch lined a double off the rightfield wall at Comerica Park to drive in the winning run against the Twins. The next day, after the Tigers took the rubber game of the series, I asked Twins veteran hitter Michael Cuddyer what he thought of Tigers rookies Austin Jackson and Scott Sizemore.

Cuddyer praised them. Then he added: "I was impressed with Boesch, too. I was impressed with his swing. He wasn't scared, and he wasn't passive. He saw the ball in the strike zone, and he took a hack at it. You don't see that too often with young players. When they first get up here, they have at-bats that are kind of passive.""
