Malone, Pippen, and especially Payton have ragged, aggressive personalities that don't lend themselves to submitting to being mere assistants. The pouting Payton fought with Sonic teammates. Pippen while here kept whining pompously that upon retirement, he wanted a front office job, not a mere assistant coaching job. He would have been extremely lucky to have gotten even a PR job. If word got to Utah that we were considering Stockton or Malone, Ithe Jazz would meet our offer and get them. We need a big man coach, which is why Aldridge and Oden know so little. When Nate was promoted from Asst. to Head Coach (because Westphal couldn't control Payton), Dwayne Casey was named as Co-Coach, but within a couple of days was clarified as his Asst. Coach. Then McMillan began the process of bringing the sulking Payton under control, with the result of Payton being traded for Ray Allen. It was the best trade Wally Walker, Whitsitt's replacement, ever did, during his years of Pritchard-like inactivity following that hyperactive, always entertaining rascal Whitsitt.
