Tayshaun Prince. Better defender, better shooter and he is almost as good as J-Ho at cutting through the lanes and getting an easy shot. I bet if he wasn't in the Pistons' system he could be a 20 ppg guy.

Howard is a better dive cutter, better off the dribble, and has a better mid range game. Prince is a better defender and a slightly better post player. They both are good from outside.
I am going to go with Josh Howard, Prince has this reputation of being a great perimeter defender -- well no <Censored>, he's got both Wallace's backing him up and changing drivers shots/striking fear into them. I remember something like LeBron scoring 44 points when one of the Wallace's was out, Prince's defense is magnified due to the fact that he's got 2 of the games best defenders behind himHoward is also a better scorer, at Wake Forest he was primarily a scorer but turned his game to defense and it worked out for him. He's shown numerous times that he can carry Dallas offensively when Dirk doesn't.Straight forward to me
Dude, Dirk has carried them on offense at almost ALL times, but you're right... just take a look at this stat...Dirk without J-Ho: 29.?? PPGDirk with J-Ho: 24.5 PPGOffensively, it's Howard, but if you watch a game, he is set up MOST of the times by Dirk Nowitzki, and Jason Terry, but since it's more of an isolation, no assist, lol, so you gotta watch it to believe it, not look at the stats sheet.Defensively, I think it's Prince, as much of a Mavs fan I am, because Howard has been losing some focus on it this season.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>They both are good from outside.</div>Ha, most teams will let Howard shoot from outside. That's a part of his game he needs to improve.Defense, it's Prince, Howard's defense is overrated, he's not a shut down defender Prince can be. Offense is a wash, both cut, have post up games. Prince has more range though. And rebounding, I think Jho is the better rebounder. Hard to gauge when Prince has Ben Wallace but Howard finds way to grab boards offensively and defensively. So based on that, I'd go with Howard. But it's close to where I'd take either and see no dropoff.
I don't think Howards defense is overrated, as much as it's overhyped...he's a damn good defensive player, but Prince is probably better...or he LOOKS that way on since he's on a great defensive team.Howard is more versatile, especially offensively, and I believe he's a better set up man and ISO player as well.
Josh Howard has 16 20pt games, Dallas is undefeated in themTayshaun Prince has 10 20pt games, Detroit is 9-1Tayshaun has played 20 more games than Howard, and playes 3 more mpg than Howard. Howard: 15.5 PPG (47% FG), 6.4 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.2 spgPrince: 14 PPG (44% FG), 4.3 rpg, 2.3 apg, 0.7 spgHoward needs to work on his threes, thats a given - but when he only takes 1 per game it doesn't seem like a factor to me (41%). Prince takes 2.4 threes a game, but only hits them at 35%.Tay's defense is brought to light by the Wallaces x2, he's not that great a defender, just got long arms.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>I don't think Howards defense is overrated, as much as it's overhyped...he's a damn good defensive player</div>What's the difference. He's a average defensive player, he gets lazy on that end. He doesn't shut anyone down, I don't see how that makes him a damn good defensive player.
He's a good defensive player, he has long arms and almost always stays in front of his player. He gets more steals and rebounds than Tayshaun.Yes he gets lazy from time to time, but it's not like he just lets guys walk past him.I think he gets overhyped as the Mavs defensive stopper, which he's not...He's good, but not the best guy we have.

i'd say he's a pretty good defender. He kind of turns it on and off, just like every player in the league (with like 3 exceptions).
Both players are overhyped on the defensive end. Occasionally they can shut down their defense but Howard wins on the offensive end. Howard is actually shooting the 3 ball well this year. Maybe they are open shots but at least he is efficient there. Also most teams put their weakness defensive player on Prince because of Billups and Hamilton. Prince is a good role player but he is a little overhyped.
I haven't watched josh howard to comment enough. When i watch the mavs i only watch them to see how dirk is going. Thought you'd know. One thing i do know is that one aspect of tayshaun's game that is overrated is on defense. He is not in the league of players such as bowen and artest on D. Prince did not shut down kobe, team defense did. Without the wallaces helping him he'd be embarassed by every good swingman evertime he played against them.
haha, one time Pierce said before a game against the pistons that he'd be first team all-defense if he had the Wallace's protecting the basket for him.
Exactly, the main point I'm (and it seems others) are trying to convey is that Prince's defense IS NOT THAT SPECTACULAR, sure it's decent but without the Wallace's he'd no different to any other swingman
