IMO, he'll be fired if the Cavs fail to make the Finals. Even if they happen to beat the Celts, I'm fairly certain they'll lose to the Magic.
What makes you fairly certain they'll lose to the Magic? The fact that they're blowing out inferior teams like the Bobcats and Hawks?? Need I remind you that the Magic needed all 7 games to beat a Boston team without Kevin Garnett last season? This year's Cavs are wayyy better than last year's Cavs with a legit second option in Antawn Jamison and they're so much bigger with Shaq and the emergence of J.J Hickson. That's 4 bigs to put on Dwight Howard when you include Z and Varejao.
Ridiculous to think Mike Brown is in danger of losing his job. I don't know why he gets that from so many people outside of Cleveland who don't know what the fuck they're talking about. He has been awesome the last few years. You're out of your mind.
I will say this: Woodson has had the crappier hand to play. He doesn't have Lebron, and he does work for people who are in court sueing each other.
Do you believe the Suns have a legitimate chance of beating the Lakers? If so, then in the same way, the Magic have a clear shot of beating the Cavs. That is, bot of those teams have an active, scoring big man complimented by an array of excellent outside shooters. That appears to be working in the playoffs this season.
Umm there's a difference between "the Magic have a clear shot" and "I'm fairly certain" the Magic will beat the Cavs. If the Magic and Cavs play each other in the ECF, they both have a clear shot of winning, no doubt. But you said you were fairly certain the Cavs would lose. That's the part I didn't understand.
The Cavs have been somewhat taken out of their game by the Celtics. That's been a real eye-opener to me. As an example, I was very, very surprised to read that James might attempt guarding Rondo. Now, I don't see that as a Grant Hill guarding Dre' type of move. I see it more as desperation, as it were. Can't quite place my finger on it, but I'm seeing a bit of fear in their collective eyes. Meanwhile, the Magic are absolutely tearing through the playoffs. Heck, if they win tonight (they're currently up by 15 in the 3rd), they'll have swept both playoff opponents. Playoffs are playoffs regardless of who you might think are weak opponents. I'm of the belief that the Cavs have to make the Finals (heck, WIN it) for Brown's job to be safe. That's just me, though.
The Cavs have been taken out of THEIR game. In Game 2, the Cavs beat the Celtics by more points in a playoff game in Boston THAN ANY TEAM IN THE HISTORY OF THE LEAGUE. Now THAT is taking a team out of their game. The Cavs are fine. It's a tied series because both teams are good but to give the edge to the Celtics is to completely ignore the two wins the Cavs have in the series. As for the Magic, yes, it does matter which team you are playing. The Cavs swept their first two rounds last season cuz they played crappy teams. The Nets won 10 straight playoff games in 2003 but lost in the NBA Finals.
It was not a shot at the Nets. My point was that success in one or even two series doesn't carry over to success in the next series. The Spurs were better. The fact that the Nets swept the Celtics and Pistons didn't suddenly make them better than the Spurs. Same thing with the Cavs and Magic this year. Just because the Magic sweep the Bobcats and Hawks, it doesn't make them better than the Cavs.
by the way... why is Z playing? I thought he was re-signed after the deadline for playoff roster acquisitions.
If I remember correctly a lot of analysts were predicting the Pistons to beat the Nets that year. We swept them. The finals were boring as hell anyway. Orlando had the harder matchup in the first round and played a better Hawks team with Crawford but JJ hasn't shown up the whole series. If Johnson showed up the series probably would have lasted at least another game or two. I think the Magic will beat whoever they face in the conference finals if Howard doesn't get in foul trouble every game like he did in the first round. With the refs getting down on both knees for Shaq and Lebron it's likely to happen.
Mike Browns biggest strength is that he knows where his bread is buttered. He does whatever it takes to keep Lebron happy and take the fall anytime he isn't great. Not a bad move at all...
Totally agree with this. When the going gets tough, it doesnt seem he makes tactical changes or countermoves and impose his will on the game flow, rather he just asks Lebron to bail the team out. He seems expendable. However, Barkley noted the Hawks have gone as far as that team's core can take them. If management really believes that, then Woodson might be safe. If not--which I think more likely-- I think he's probably the scapegoat to their disppointing finish. So, probably Woodson.
