Maybe, but I am under the assumption that the GM wouldn't be in place even if KP were fired today, so that issue would be there no matter when KP is let go. Ed O.
Isn't Warkentein without a contract right now? I guess I don't see why Pritchard, if he knows he's gone after the draft (a verrrrrry flimsy rumor, but let's play along), would want to try to make a big deal that may potentially put Portland in the top 3 to 4 teams in the league for the foreseeable future. If he knows he's gone (again, let's play along), does anyone really think he'd strongly consider trying to make a deal for, say, Chris Bosh, even if it means giving up Aldridge, Przy (contract), and even potentially Batum? I don't think he'd do anything other than draft a so-so player, or an upside project, at #22. If Paul Allen wants a new GM, fire Pritchard right now and hire one. Coaches are being hired prior to the draft. There is no reason a GM can't be put in place with an expedited interview process.
hire me please, but if someday you should decide to let me go I'll sabotage your club... just look at my track record! maybe but maybe the new GM would move these players for other players of value. I'd hope that if he wanted "his guys" that he wouldn't move KP's acquired assets for worthless crap like Nash did. Also, maybe the new GM would be hired from within the organization and feel that the 2010 draftees were his guys too? STOMP
The sitatution is not at all similar. Why waste time trading "assets" right now when a GM can be hired to draft his own assets?
It's not like we have a top pick. Many on here thought KP was crazy with last years pick when we know for sure he was trying. Point being, he could easily make a lazy pick without it looking like he is sabotaging the franchise. Nobody will know if it's a good pick for years down the line anyway. In addition, you could easily get a new GM in here with 40+ days to go. I'll bet Portland owns all of KP's scouting information as well. It's not like any of these players are a secret and, if you want to get rid of him, why would you even want his opinion? Too many contradictions. EDIT: That being said, Paul Allen is a fucking retard.
What kind of GM is worth a fuck if he cares about how he got the good players they have on board? I have never heard a GM go 'Well you know this all star was drafted by my predecessor. So I am going to ship them down the road becauese of that one reason."..... GM's in general are happy to get good players however they can get them, for the least cost in talent to the team as possible. Thats what they do.
Its a lot easier for an outsider to ship away players like blake and outlaw ALOT SOONER, than it was for KP to wait But he did eventually ship them out
I still think a sign and trade during the draft for a big name is a possibility, but I don't see that happening if Pritchard is a lame duck.
That seems especially unlikely considering sign and trades can't be worked out until free agency starts.
Deal in principle, drafting a player to be traded as a part of a sign and trade. Sorry if this confuses you. No deals are "finalized" on draft day, but parts can be put in place prior to July 1, if not the actually free agent.
My guess is Vance has no inside source. He is making a guess like anyone else, and he is using the old "my source" to make him look credible.. If he really had a source he would not risk fuckng him over by exposing it. As we all know PA hates leaks. Everyone is guessing and the concensus is he is gone sometime after the draft. But it is all a guess.
Why is that everybody assumes "source" equals somebody inside the organization? Agents, league officials, etc. are all over the place and hear lots and lots of gossip I'm sure. In fact I'd wager most writer's sources are outside of the organization they cover/covered. And in Vance's case I wouldn't be shocked if his association with Warkentien (whom he has said he's on cordial terms with) might be part of his "unnamed" sources.
I am pretty sure all Blazer draft picks are a group decision. Especially this year. I would not worry about a lazzy pick. PA signs off on them
Exactly. The best thing KP can do for his resume and future employment prospects is have the best draft/off season he's ever had. Either his current employer would keep him on, maybe extend him with a raise, or some other team would go after him. I would.
You know it's a slow news week when..... Let's rehash old stories with "sources". This is old and tired.
