“Most soccer fans (at games) have children, friends and relatives who are playing. It’s different than baseball, where you can hang out, have a beer and have fun.”

While I understand that soccer is not the most popular sport in this country, that's about the most ignorant 2 sentences I've ever read.

I'd say it's the most accurate comparison I've ever heard.

I've never even met a soccer fan who didn't fall into that narrow description.

Doesn't mean they couldn't sell tickets, but they'll never win over baseball fans. 2 distinctly different sources, fanwise.

As for soccer in Eugene, I can't think of a better place. 2 colleges there, and it's a town I will never have any reason to stop in other than for gas on the way to the beach.

It's impossible to compare soccer and baseball. Soccer is a sport. Baseball isnt

Depends what level of competition you're talking about.

Not surprising cause more people play soccer than any other sport. And how many baseball fans have children, friends and relatives who are playing?

"It’s different than baseball, where you can hang out, have a beer and have fun.” That dude is absolutely clueless.

Are you under the impression the millions and millions of people who attend soccer games are:

    All related to the players?

    Are not having fun?

    And are not consuming beer?

I'd have to go with its close to a billion people. 500 million people worldwide alone follow the EPL.

Well, we're talking about attending live games....

    But I take your point

Let's just say there are "some" people who go to matches who are not related to the players.
