...they'd interview Monty for their head coaching job.

Man, what a GREAT opportunity that would be for him! MUCH better than in New Orleans or Philly, IMO.

 

If Joe Johnson is gone, is it a much better opportunity?

 

Monty would be a perfect fit! Hope they don't think of it!

 

I think that the whole reason Woodson was let go through, was because he ran the same type of offense Nate does. Why would that make Monty a great fit if they wanted to get away from that?

 

Fair or not, I can't see the Hawks hiring a young black ex player with no prior head coaching experience. They literally just fired one of those guys. And also a guy that has learned under a coach that runs the same offense as the guy that just got fired.

 

Would Monty run a different offense if it were not for Nate though? Would he also take more chances on defense?

My guess is that any coach that can convince Johnson to stay is the best fit for the job.

That is a good question. The Hawks have more problems they need to iron out though. One of their biggest problems is they are talented deep in multiple positions but lacking in others. They have 2 good power forwards, but no good centers. They have 2 good shooting guards, but not a good point guard. Al Horford has filled in pretty well at center, but is overmatched in a lot of nights. Most of their small forwards are actually tweeners. They have a long way to go to get that smoothed out. If Joe Johnson Leaves, it gets even worse.

 

I think alot of teams would love to have those problems. One could say similiar things about the roster in Phoenix and Gentry is taking them to the West finals. I think the days of fitting players to the style of the coach is over with the way the CBA is designed. Coaches have to be like IRON CHEF's and make the best out of the ingredients given.

 

Many teams might love that problem. But when you are attempting to move from just a playoff team to a contender, you have to be firing on all cylinders. How many teams that are left have that problem? That would be zero. So sure, a Minnesota would love to have that problem. What does it have to do with Atlanta? Nothing.

 

So the Suns are firing on all cylinders with Collins/Frye at center, an ancient Hill at SF, and Nash at PG?

Gentry swept the Spurs with a team that was less than ideal. Woodson got crushed by the Magic in four.

 

They would trade Joe Johnson and Josh Smith to the Blazers for pennies on the dollar...
