Breaking news: Don King pulls the rug out from under Thomas/Mayorga fight

Don King has killed the PPV, basically.

Don King is a slave driver.

Re: Breaking news: Don King pulls the rug out from under Thomas/Mayorga fight

So essentially what happened was King contacted Shine Fights about a week ago to tell them that he owned Ricardo Mayorga's fighting rights. Basically any "fight" Mayorga is involved in--be it boxing or extending to MMA--has to be approved by him. Supposedly he asked Shine Fights for a cut of their (miniscule) PPV revenue and they told him to sit and spin, so now he's successfully stopped Mayorga from fighting on the card and essentially killed the PPV (and possibly the promotion).

The thought was that King owned Mayorga's boxing rights but not his "fighting" rights, so MMA could be done without his supervision. Guess not.

Don't think the timing is an accident, either. He could've done this weeks, months ago. Instead he waited until the last minute to fuck over Shine Fights as much as possible.

Re: Breaking news: Don King files injunction vs. Shine Fights, PPV still on regardles

I wonder what the going rate is for a judge's soul?

    Now it's getting really interesting.

Shine Fights says they will go ahead with the fight and in so doing ignore the injunction.

Maybe they are just saying that to get people to buy the PPV, then when the time comes they will say the fight isn't happening.

Can they do that? won that be the end of Shine if they do this?

Don King will sue everyone involved. The lawsuit will probably be expensive but it could also give Shine Fights a ton of publicity.

    Dangerous gambit.

Re: Din Thomas vs. Ricardo Mayorga canceled, Ninja Rua vs. David Heath new main event

Shine Fights have backed down and canceled the Din Thomas/Ricardo Mayorga fight.

Ninja Rua vs. David Heath becomes the new main event.

    Everyone loses.

^ Yeah, this show is canceled outright and the promotion is very much on the brink.

yet another reason to hate Don King. He basically killed boxing now he's messing with MMA.

    just go away Don King.

Don King owns his fighters until death.

HOWEVER, this could be interesting--a judge ruled there was no difference between boxing and fighting MMA. If that is a precedent, MMA could be legalized everywhere boxing is legal--including New York State.
