"Some of the best basketball minds in the world deemed Warriors rookie Stephen Curry one of the best point guards in the country, adding him Tuesday to USA Basketball's 2010-12 National Team.

Curry - along with Tyreke Evans, Jeff Green and Tayshaun Prince - was added to a roster that stands at 31 players. He will be competing for a chance to play in the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey and the 2012 Olympics in London.

"He is a fine, young player who is just getting started but has already established himself as a terrific talent," USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo said. "He can certainly shoot the ball, and he represents the kind of character and talent that we want as part of our program."

The U.S. team's training camp is July 19-24 in Las Vegas, where Curry will find himself in competition with the likes of Chauncey Billups, Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook and Deron Williams.

The rookie isn't being ruled out just yet.

"Although we have a number of players who were members of the 2006-08 national team returning to the 2010-12 national team pool, we are beginning a new selection and team-building process," U.S. and Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said.

"For many of the young players, it's a matter of getting them assimilated into the program and waiting for their time to come, but I don't think it's as simple as that for (Curry)," Colangelo said. "When you have a chance to play against and practice with the best, it enhances you as a player.""

Should be a good experience for him playing with, practicing against, and learning from the best players in the world.

I think Curry would excel in international play more than Westbrook or Rose, but as you said the experience itself of being around established guys will really help him.

Mix Curry together with Roy and that's a great backcourt. Throw in stars Kobe Bryant, Lebron James at pf, and Chris Bosh at center and that's a terrific starting group IMO.

The great side of Curry playing on the US squad is the potential luring of a bigname free agent to want to come play with him. Assuming the front office gets an overhaul, Curry becomes the ambassador for the Warriors and may be able to pull a guy like Bosh over if they develop some chemistry.
