Re: Bzdelik embraces challenge at Wake I really don't see this as an improvement for the Demon Deacons. I'm actually quite puzzled. I know he is buddies with the AD there but they probably won't be buddies for much longer I'm afraid.
Re: Bzdelik embraces challenge at Wake While this could be true his record at Colorado wasn't the best... I just figured Wake would go with someone else. Maybe he just needs a change of scenery... it did wonders for Tubby Smith.
Re: Bzdelik embraces challenge at Wake He coached the Nuggets for 2+ seasons. The first year was before Melo. The second year, they went from 17 wins to 43 wins. Vanderweghe wanted the team to be an uptempo offensive minded one, and Buzz was a defensive minded coach, so they canned him. He then moved on to Air Force. A bunch of my old teammates went to see him there and posted pictures somewhere that I saw. Kinda kewl.
Re: Bzdelik embraces challenge at Wake Well he was successful at Air Force. It'll be interesting to see what he can do in the ACC.
Re: Bzdelik embraces challenge at Wake I remember him coaching us... we played the triangle on offense and defense much like the Bulls played in the championship years. But this was back in the mid-to-late 1970s. I think ahead of his time, and the triangle was a great HS offense.
Re: Bzdelik embraces challenge at Wake That's a great story. I love hearing about the good old days from the old timers...
Re: Bzdelik embraces challenge at Wake I posted something recently that dates me. Something like this: The first NBA game I went to in person was the Knicks at the Baltimore Bullets. Clyde Frazier was the star of the Knicks. Earl Monroe was the star of the Bullets. That was before Monroe was traded to the Knicks where he and Frazier were one of the top back courts for years. The first baseball game I saw was a Washington Senators game at RFK. I remember the place was deserted.
Re: Bzdelik embraces challenge at Wake Washington Senators??? How revealing. Were the streets crowded with Model T's or what? I guess you mean the 3rd installment of the Senators...
Re: Bzdelik embraces challenge at Wake It was a few years before they moved to Texas. I was in maybe 5th grade at the time. I do remember sneaking a radio into class to listen to the 1968 Tigers-Cardinals world series as well.
Re: Wear Twins Leaving UNC: What it means for UNC I read somewhere else that UCLA or Arizona is the likely destination. Let's be honest, they really weren't that good. This may actually be a plus for Roy. That opens up two scholarships. That's huge.
Re: Wear Twins Leaving UNC: What it means for UNC The Wear Twins should of never gone to UNC. If you ask me, they just seem like they fit into more of a halfcourt oriented team like UCLA.
Two NC State backups to transfer Two of North Carolina State's reserves say they are transferring. Wolfpack coach Sidney Lowe said Tuesday night that forward Josh Davis and guard Julius Mays were leaving the program in search of better opportunities elsewhere. Davis played 31 games during his freshman season but did not play in the final five games of the season. He averaged nearly 3 points and 2 rebounds in roughly 10 minutes per game. Mays primarily was the backup to Javier Gonzalez at point guard, but made six starts during two seasons. He averaged 4.7 points in 17 minutes. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=5199831
Re: Two NC State backups to transfer eh, no big loss. with Smith and Leslie, that team is gonna be solid
Wear twins transferring to UCLA Freshman twins David and Travis Wear, who recently left North Carolina, are transferring to UCLA and sent in signed paperwork this morning, their mother confirmed to ESPN.com. "They love UCLA," Gloria Wear said. "Great school, great coach, great program. Why would they want to leave home?" The Long Beach Press-Telegram first reported the news of the former McDonald's All-Americans headed to UCLA, which is closer to their Huntington Beach, Calif., home. UCLA coach Ben Howland recruited the 6-foot-10 forwards out of high school, and they should provide a frontcourt presence for the Bruins, though they will have to sit out the coming season because of transfer rules. Travis Wear averaged 3.5 points and 2.2 rebounds in 32 games. David Wear averaged 2.9 points and 1.7 rebounds in 27 games, missing the final nine games of the season with a torn labrum in his left hip. http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/news/story?id=5219398
