By Bryan Hoch / MLB.com NEW YORK -- Phil Hughes was outpitched by Mike Pelfrey in his first career Subway Series start, setting up the Yankees for a 5-3 loss to the Mets on Saturday at Citi Field. Making his third career appearance against the Mets, Hughes was touched for four runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings. He walked three and struck out seven in the losing 117-pitch effort, the right-hander's first loss of the season after starting 5-0. The Mets got two quick runs off Hughes in the first inning. Jason Bay connected for a double and scored on David Wright's run-scoring single. Angel Pagan then drove in Ike Davis with a single to left, a play that ended the inning when Wright was thrown out advancing to third. Hughes also allowed a run-scoring single to Wright in the third. His final pitch was smacked by Alex Cora through the right side in the sixth, scoring Pagan, who had reached on a double that was misplayed in left field by Randy Winn. The Yankees were held to one run in six innings by Pelfrey, who walked two and struck out five. Francisco Cervelli accounted for the Yankees' only run off Pelfrey with a sixth-inning tapper to the mound, allowing Robinson Cano to score from third base. Chan Ho Park allowed an RBI single to Pagan in the seventh as the Yankees lost for the first time in five contests at Citi Field and dropped their fifth decision in the past seven games.
