Conventional wisdom on Rudy Gay's future goes like this: The Grizzlies may not be willing to match an offer for Gay, a restricted free agent who could command a max salary with so many teams having cap space this summer. But owner Michael Heisley continues to talk like Gay will be back with the team. "Rudy is going to be out there. But here's the No. 1 thing: The option on what we pay him is mine," Heisley told the Memphis Commercial Appeal. "So when I say we're going to have Rudy next year, that's a pretty good indication that we're going to have him." As ESPN's Chad Ford has written, the Grizzlies aren't exactly known as free spenders, so it's hard to get an exact read on what will happen. But it does appear as if several teams have interest in Gay, ones that could offer him a max deal. From there, the ball is in Heisley's hands to match. Source: Memphis CA
