NY Times - An Eastern Conference executive, who was granted anonymity because he was not authorized to talk about another team's decisions has told Howard Beck that he had spoken with Knicks officials on Monday, who said that Larry Brown's dismissal was a certainty. The executive also confirmed that Thomas, at the direction of the ownership, planned to replace Brown.Knicks officials continued to decline to comment.Brown's camp responded to the speculation on Monday by indicating that he intends to remain as New York head coach."He's recovering nicely," Glass said. "He's the coach of the Knicks, and ready and willing and able, and he intends to follow through on his commitment to coach the Knicks."http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/405..._down_to_bench/
I think if they have a buyout with Brown and the position is open, it has to go with Isiah Thomas. Every other coach that is in search for a head coaching job knows that you cant win with the roster Thomas put together. Why would you even go to NY? Even if it would be your first coaching job, i dont think it would do anything for your career. Plus every coach wants to have some say in what players are coming to the team and what players are let go, and with Thomas there, there is always going to be a power struggle between the coach and Thomas. Thomas is the only one that thinks that this roster is a winning one and that Brown didnt know how to coach them. If Thomas actaully comes in and starts winning it will be a miricle. If i was Brown I would love the idea of a buyout. Brown has to be the only winner coming out of the situation even though he's the scapegoat. He's gettinh paid a hefty amount of money and he gets to go coach another team that actaully has a chance of winning.
Isiah better know what he's getting himself into if he does indeed become the coach. Everything he has touched in basketball (except when he was a player) has been a disaster. He was a coach of the Pacers and couldn't get them out of the first round. He was an executive in the front office in Toronto, and that franchise went sour.He was an executive in the CBA, and the league went downhill. If he is the head coach, he better be able to produce more victories than Brown, otherwise I don't see any franchise hiring him either as a coach or an executive.
