Minutes ago Tom Lehman won the sudden death playoff, receiving the Alfred S. Born Trophy for the 2010 Senior PGA Championship Tour. He, Fred Couples and David Frost each ended regulation play at seven under par. A clean drive from the eighteenth hole found Lehman sitting pretty after he drew the first position start. Frost ended up in a bunker with his shot and Couples in brush that left the ball unplayable. At 51, Lehman was the winner of five majors prior to today’s victory. He has not won on a major tour since 1997. For one week that year he held the number one title in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Lehman jockeyed in and out of first position all afternoon of the final round at Colorado Golf Club in Parker, CO on Sunday, May 30, 2010. For a while it looked as if he would not regain ground after Couples moved ahead for the tie with Frost at the sixteenth hole. Among other records, Couples led in driving distances on the tour and staged a big comeback after some unimpressive early scoring in the tournament.

Frost held the lead after knocking Lehman out in the middle of the back nine. Lehman, known for his consistency and steadiness in the game, stay focused and joined Frost and Couples in a tie for first place. “He did nothing stellar, but hung in there,” Golf Channel commentators noted after the win.
