Just about every year there is at least 1 guy that is picked in the 2nd round that ends up contributing to his team and is known as a "steal."This year should be no different, Who do you guys think will be this years list of players that have become good players. Now they dont have to be a guy that turns into a Gilbert Arenas or a Michael Redd, just maybe a guy that helps his team do the dirty work, like a Eduardo Najera or a Chris Duhon. I know that the positions of some players are all over the board, for example, on draftexpress.com Richard Roby is the 40th pick in the draft, while on nbadraft.net, he's gone at the 20th pick. Another guy is Aaron Gray. On draftexpress he is the 36th pick and on nbadraft he is gone at the 22nd pickMy list includes Paul Davis, Kevin Pittsnogle, Guillermo Diaz, Allen Ray, Nick Fazekas and, Dee Brown. I think all those guys will probably go in the 2nd round and will all be solid players in the NBA for years to come; not superstars by no means, but good quality backups for the bench.EDIT: i just noticed i put 2007 enstead of 2006. I mean 2006 2nd round steals.
I edited that for you. Guillermo Diaz will be a good player/steal in the second round. He's one hell of an athlete that could come off the bench and score.
Craig Smith. He reminds me a lot of Ryan Gomes. I think he'll do well given the right situation. Taj Gray. Hes real athletic, especially for the PF position. In the NBA thoguh I think he'll end up being a tall wing player, and he'll do well for himself. Quincy Douby. Hes a borderline first rounder. His workouts will determine late first or early 2nd round. I think he'll go early 2nd round because he cant do much more than shoot. But he's got a bonafide jumper with lights out range. Allan Ray. He's another guy like Douby, but I think he'll fall even farther because in the NBA he'll be an overmatched, and oversized deuce. Hes a good slasher though and knows how to use screens, so I think he'll be pretty decent. Dee Brown. While hes not a great shooter, he can run the point. Guys got blazing speed and plays with 150% effort. He can be an effective back up PG somewhere.
I like Nick Fazekas in this topic. The man is a solid seven footer, and has potential to be a solid starter. I am hoping Detroit grabs him in the draft.Dee, Craig, and Guillermo are also in this discussion.
James White from Cincinatti or Gerry McNamara from Syracuse.Jim Boheim put it best something like "We wouldn't have won a f*ckin single game this year without him"..James White is a 6'7 ATHLETE he is one of the most amazing jumpers I've ever seen..and McNamara is a great shooter so he can be like a better Eddie House or something like that. His athleticism or lack thereof is what will hurt him alot. I thought he would go 1st round after his great tourney..

He's got the second best jumpshot in College BBall, and the only reaon his stats dont look so great his for the reason you already stated. He had to do everything for 'Cuse, cause they only had Devendorf who's a headcase anyway. I think he's the biggest sleeper, right ahead of James White. The reason White is a sleeper, is because you cant teach a kid to have long arms, great speed, and other-worldly leaping ability, but you can teach him to shoot and play D.
How about Dee Brown? He should be pretty good. I remember he was suppose to come to the NBA last year, but he dropped out because of injury.
I forgot about Quincy Douby. He is such a great shooter. He is like JJ Redick, but hes more athletic, and he can create his own shot. He is an underated player, and I think he'll be a great player one day

Hes got a great offensive game and a good outside shot for a big man. He does lack some strength to be an effective big man in the NBA though.

I think he is probably a late first round pick and most draft boards show him mid first round to late first round. But i agree, he will be a pretty good player in the L coming of the bench.
Darius Washington would be a pretty good steal in the second round. Bassy wasn't considered that much better than Washington coming out of high school. Although Darius's stats aren't exactly eye-popping, in fact they are far from it, but I think he'd be a great project for some team.
Yeah Dee Brown could be a steal. Does anyone think Dee Brown has any Chris Paul in him? I mean both are 6'0, fast as hell and can score inside at ease basically. Dee Brown is a worse distributor and rebounder, but for a second rounder what do you expect. Another good sleeper could be Ryan Hollins from UCLA. He's not going to be a starter, at least yet, because he is too weak. You can easily tell that, but he is a 7 footer and lord knows you can never have enough of them. Hollins at 7 is still a monstrous dunker and a great shot blocker and can run the court very well at his height...here's a fun fact, he cleared a 7' high jump in HS..what a monster.I could see him going to maybe the Hornets as a big man who can play some defense hopefully and add some more firepower to the team?
dang, i thought i was gonna be the first to say quincy douby. here's my list.-Quincy Douby-Taj Gray (i think he'll go late first tho)-Guillermo Diaz-Allen Ray-PJ Tucker (?)

I dont think Douby will be able to be a second round steal, because I dont think hell go in the second round. He could slip to early second round though
I'm gonna throw two more out there. P.J. Tucker, because he works hard on both ends of the floor and would be a very strong 2/3 swingman, like a Ruben Patterson with better offesnive talent, and also, Eric Hicks. Undersized didnt stop Elton Brand or Ben Wallace, and Eric Hicks has as good or better work ethic and desire than both of them. Not to mention he has a rock solid build that you dont find in many 21 year olds. Even if he's a couple inches short, he can make up for that with willpower and raw strength. He crashes the boards like no one in college basketball, and to record a triple-double with Points, Boards, and Blocks at 6'6"-6'7" is impressive.
we haven't even had the draft yet. why are we picking steals? the players you are naming could be 1st round picks for all you know. how about waiting until the draft actually happens before declaring someone as a steal.

A team that picks any of these guys in the 1st round either a) love them and think they are really special or or stupid. Douby is the only one that i see has a chance to be first round material; all the others have 2nd round written all over them.
