Oden, Batum, and Rudy, and JPEC? No thanks.

I'm a HUGE Bosh fan, but that's too much to give up. No Batum. Everyone else in there a goer though.

    No it fucking wouldn't!

I'd trade Aldridge and Rudy. And then immediately regret it, because Aldridge can guard Gasol, but Bosh can't. I MIGHT consider Batum for Bosh straight up. Maybe.

Let Bosh go to the Lakers for Bynum and see how they get Bosh, Gasol and Odom to work.

So: Damon's a dickhead, Oden's cool. Any more info you'd be prepared to give?

(To be specific: does Oden get on with any other Blazer? He seems like he's still a bit distant.)

Just the sight of Oden annoys me these days but anything they can offer outside Wade would be an insult.

    Fuck off, Miami.

It's probably pointless to discuss too much in detail because both possibilities are so unlikely, but I happen to believe we are contendors with either of them. Last year we never gelled, had a horrible offensive set, and still won 50 games. With either of those two our front-line would improve immensly (over the team sans oden), and I don't really see what we're missing. Okay we have no completely dominant players, but I don't see a whole lot of weaknesses, and I think our front-court would be incredible.

Of course it would also be incredible with a healthy and comfortable and confident Oden.

I don't get it. A lot of people saying so ans so doesn't make us a contender, but how in the hell does someone who plays 82 games since we drafted him 3 years ago make us a contender?

    This.

If some of you want to go down with the ship, then no rational argument is going to change your mind. Enjoy being shark's dung.

Oden gives Portland a chance to be a contender if he stays healthy. Hard to say how likely this is.

Marc Gasol and Al Hortford have zero chance to transform Portland into a contender by themselves.

That is the logic as I see it.

I am with HCP on this one. I would rather the team swing for the fences on Oden's knees then trade him so they can be a first round out for the next 10 years in a row.

Because he'll get healthy and play more? The number of games he HAS played is immaterial. The Wizards think that John Wall will (eventually) make them a contender, but boy are THEY stupid - he hasn't played any games!

Somebody needs to do a thing like the "I'm with Coco" logo, only "I'm with HCP". (You'd have to add small print like "solely in regards to his views on Greg Oden, not on the size of his (HCP's) penis or indeed anything else".) I think most people on this forum agree.

Oden, this season, proved that even after knee surgery he could be a transformative player. He will never be a great scorer, but he would, if healthy, be a defensive player of the year candidate every healthy year. He's at least an Alonzo Mourning or Patrick Ewing in impact, even after surgery. Marc Gasol, Brooke Lopez, Andrew Bynum et. al. are Brad Daughertys for a ceiling.

So, past performance is irrelevant in predicting future performance?

I'll make it simple for you. How many of the following hypothetical possibilities, if added to this year's playoff roster, result in title contender?

    Marc Gasol:
    Al Horford:
    Healthy Greg Oden:

I assume you're hoping the team trading for Oden in your scenario thinks so.

    Bingo.

There are always teams that overvalue big men. Getting Buck Williams for Sam Bowie was a steal of epic proportions. If a similar opportunity comes along today, "going down with the ship" with Oden would be ridiculous.

    I'm Oden Shark Dung.

A fully functioning Al Horford, IMO, doesn't win us a championship.
A fully functioning Marc Gasol, IMO, doesn't win us a championship.
Greg Oden being healthy for 20-25 playoff games, imo, can win us a championship.

Maybe not Al Horford, but Marc Gasol has a shot.
