A drunk, an honest politician, a healthy Greg Oden, and a purple unicorn are walking down the street when they see a $20 bill on the sidewalk. Who grabs it first?

The drunk, because the other 3 are figments of his booze soaked imagination.

I agree with this. Gasol is a legit 7-footer, has a respectable post repertoir, is a very good rebounder and a decent defender. I think he would be a great fit here. If we could get (say) Gasol and (resigned) Gay for Oden + (anyone not named Roy/Aldridge/Bayless/Batum/Miller/Camby), I'd be in favor

So now you've gone from "Oden has never been healthy" to "Oden can/will never be healthy"?

I agree. I think people are grossly under appreciating what Marc Gasol can do. I think a healthy Marc Gasol on this team WOULD make us a contender. I think a healthy Greg Oden COULD make us a dynasty. Most people are still in love with the dream of being a dynasty.

I agree with HCP. I'd rather keep Oden and see him become a bust then trade him.

A lot of people also forget that Marc Gasol plays with Zach Randolph, someone who many Blazers fans will know is notorious for stealing rebounds away from his teammates. Gasol could very well develop into Pau Gasol but bigger (he's 7'1' and around 275 or something) and stronger and much tougher.

Agreed--playing alongside Aldridge, Gasol could be a 12-13 rpg player.

My heart is saying stick with G.O., but my mind is saying the writing is on the wall... Three years in the league and he's had multiple major injuries, including ones where nothing seemed to happen, it was just his body giving out. Even Oden doesn't know what's up with his body. A guy his size, the sad truth might just be that he's not physically able to hold up over an NBA season.

One more major injury and we won't be able to give him away, I'm sure his stock is already way down as is. So it might be wise to listen to offers. I think some on here are vastly underestimating Marc Gasol, for example.

However, I'm going to go with my heart on this one. He's my favorite player and I choose to stick with him. It's equally possible that he'll put all these injuries behind him and therefore become the player I think he could be. I don't think I could stomach trading him and seeing him do that somewhere else.

I would listen to offers, chances are he is going to be injury prone. I also think he lacks the killer instinct we need at the center spot, we need at least 3 players who will kick ass and take names, this nicey nice shit is really getting old. Get me someone like Maggette!

:dunno: Joel has had what, 3 reasonably healthy seasons out of 11? Sure, it is possible Oden will do the same.....but is that something to build a team around?

If Joel was still being paid like the lotto pick he once was, the Blazers would have let him walk long ago. He stuck because he accepted a reasonable salary for what he brought to the table.

To be precise, I don't believe Oden will ever be healthy enough to justify the salary he is going to demand. I would rather let him walk than pay him Roy/LMA type money, and I would rather trade him for something useful than just let him walk.

Somebody who just puts his head down and barrels to the hoop every single time, no matter what his teammates are doing? We already have someone like that - Jerryd Bayless.

I don't know why you think Oden is nicey-nicey. I'm sure there are plenty of NBA players who would disagree with you. (But I'm all in favor of signing Raja Bell just so he can clothesline a Laker.)

This is the argument I completely disagree with.

Why give Oden away for what we could get in a trade when his stock is "way down", when it seems clear that the upside is so high?

    I'm with the other posters...

Oden is the key to us winning a championship in the near future. If his stock is "way down", we aren't going to get a player in return that will make us contenders. We need to hope that Oden returns healthy. That is the only way we will become serious contenders. Not by trading him while is value is low.

So Im bandwagon fan just because I root for the Lakers...So me going to my first Lakers game when I was 5 or 6 with my dad, watching 90% of their games since then, and them being the only team in ANY sport I root for....all that doesnt matter to the all knowing OddEnourmous...

...im soooo bummed you dont have higher regard for me....

The year before winning the championship Kobe is getting MVP chants in Boston....both teams have bandwagon fans but I guarantee you that shit would never happen in LA for a Boston player
