He was terrible in summer league. Remember his first game where he got beaten up by 2nd round picks? Yea, it was his first game but it was their first game too. And if I remember right, he didn't even finish the summer league. It was during that summe league that I got nervous. ANd that was before we found out he needed surgery.
If teams can win championships with Luc Longley and Kendrick Perkins and Andrew Bynum, then we could win with Horford or Gasol.
Furthermore, forget about a healthy Oden, if we had had a healthy BRANDON ROY, we probably would've made the WCF this year and we would've given the Lakers at least as much of a fight as Phoenix did.
KS, rather than posting 4 times in 14 minutes without responses in between, can you make one post instead?
I don't see Greg as "nicey nice" on the court. I see a guy who takes it personally on defense and will clobber you. I remember a play where he hit "King" James pretty hard and denied him a shot. The "King" didn't like it one bit, he took a look at Greg and my impressoin was he decided to keep his feelings to himself and keep walking. Smart move. Greg Oden might be the only player in the league who can intimidate Lebron. I'll take that Greg Oden, even if it is only for the final 20 games of the season followed by a long playoff run.
HCP, well said. Injuries like GO's should happen to an a-hole like Bonzi; he doesn't deserve them. I'm of the mind that we haven't seen GO at 100% yet. He's either not been in basketball shape or the team hasn't figured out how to play with him. I expect to see that GO sometime after the All Star break, and I can't wait.
do you mean you expect to see the REAL GO after the all star break? or that he wont play at all until then?
He was almost unanimously viewed as a once in a generation center. The fact his stock is probably way down doesn't exactly mean his value is that of Darko or something... It's not like we'd give him away for table scraps... And listening to offers doesn't mean we'd have to trade him... Just that we'd listen to offers, as opposed to viewing him as untouchable in the fear his stock will continue to go way down from where it is today... But if you read my post I want to keep him... However I disagree with you that he is the ONLY way we will become serious contenders. That's ridiculous.
As constructed.. yes it is. Unless we somehow get asuperstar in the draft or for the MLE or a S & T then a healthy Oden is the best and most realistic way of becoming contenders. IMO.
You said they were good and Oden sucks. That's sarcasm? Great stuff. I didn't say you were a bandwagon fan you div. But any Laker fan calling out Boston fans is fucking ludicrous. I live in LA. I know you people. And no, you'd never hear people in LA chant MVP at another teams player because if you all don't have the MVP on your team, you don't show up to chant anything.
(I said in the "near future", meaning no rebuild, or drafting a future stud) It isn't ridiculous at at. - The current team, without Oden (ie, our team this year) is not a serious title contender. - Trading Oden while is value is "way down" will not return a star caliber player. Why would another team trade us a star player for a player who's value is "way down"? - Without another star caliber player, we won't be a serious contender. The options seem to be: 1) Stick with Oden and hope he stays healthy for a reasonable period of time. It seems obvious that if / when he stays healthy, he will be another star caliber player for us. - This results in being serious title contenders 2) Trade Oden while is value is "way down" for a non-star caliber player, but perhaps a decent, and valuable player. - This results in us being better than last year, but not serious, consistent title contenders. A minor, and IMO, insignificant and meaningless improvement. I'll take my chances with option #1.
