WEC Featherweight star Urijah Faber is dropping to bantamweight.

Faber, 31, first won the WEC Featherweight Championship in 2006 at WEC 19. He successfully defended the belt five times from 2007 to 2008 before losing to Mike Brown at WEC 36. Since then Faber has gone 2-2, losing a rematch to Brown and to current champion Jose Aldo.

Faber is widely regarded as being the best featherweight fighter of all time but his reputation is quickly being overshadowed by Aldo.

The WEC's current bantamweight champion is Dominick Cruz, who defeated Bryan Bowles at WEC 47. Cruz is expected to defend against Urijah Faber's training partner Joe Benavidez later this summer. Cruz and Faber have fought once before at WEC 26 where Faber successfully defended his featherweight belt.

Faber at 135lbs. sets up a few big money fights for the WEC including Faber vs. former champions Miguel Torres and Bowles. Faber's first fight at bantamweight could be against rising star Scott Jorgensen.
