    number was: 8663085015
    ext. 6430, Name, Shelly Durban

anyways, they called my parents house and they asked to talk to me. They knew (somehow?) that i was either married too or had a girlfriend whose name is my fiancee's and asked if i knew if she had a relative by the name of so-and-so.... The name didnt sound familiar and it actually sounded like arabic, and both of us have no arabic heritage or family...

anyways i think its a scam but im not sure, so im just trying to see if someone else has been contacted by this "unit"...

They called me a few days ago and I gave them you and your girlfriends name.

    Did you goggle the number?

"General investigation unit", but not the name of the agency? Sounds like BS. Could be a scam, or a PI fishing for info.

I just googled the number as well as used four different reverse look-up services. I was only able to find one site that basically had one person saying the same thing you did (investigator).

    http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-866-308-5015

The reverse look-up services all turned up literally nothing. In my experience, all legitimate businesses net some sort of result. It seems pretty scammy to me.

Maybe just a collection agency trying to find a deadbeat.

Is there any chance your gf could have been listed as a reference for this person? Also when was the last time your gf has run her credit? All 3 bureaus. Make sure no one has stolen her identity.

Even though you have known her for 3 months, it still would be wise to check.

Denny doesn't need to call, he just sends a uni-browed neanderthal named Guido to your home to make you an offer you can't refuse.

I never give out any personal information unless the person identifies themself. It can sometimes have embarrassing consequences. One time I received a phone call asking to speak to me, I responded "who may I ask is calling?". The person then asked for me again and I responded the same way. It went a third time around until the person (who by now was exasperated) said "Tell him Kevin Pritchard is on the phone." This was when he was DPP; all he wanted to do was thank me for something I had written in an e-mail.
