Multiple sources tell ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard that Golden State and Minnesota have talked about sending forward Anthony Randolph to the Timberwolves. The Warriors are picking No. 6 in the draft and would like to move up. The Timberwolves have three picks in the first round, including the No. 4 selection. The Warriors want to add more size and could be targeting Kentucky center DeMarcus Cousins with the No. 4 pick. The Nets probably won't take him at No. 3, but the Kings at No. 5 are a likely destination. That's why it's important for the Warriors to move up. The Timberwolves have been checking into Randolph's workouts in Dallas, where he's gained 20 pounds. ESPN.com's Chad Ford has Cousins falling to the Warriors at No. 6 in his mock draft 3.0. In that scenario they get Cousins and keep Randolph. Source: ESPN
Unless we can dump Magette's contract, there's no way I touch that trade. Especially for Cousins. I just don't see him as a game changer. He's a poor man's Dampier.
That would be very hard to do. Unless he really did it the right way, which would take a very long time, he probably added 2/3 of that weight as lean body mass and 1/3 fat. Some of that LBM would be water, so maybe if he added 20 pounds, 10 of it would be muscle? I'm no expert, but that sounds more reasonable.
Tim Kawakami suggested Kevin Love for AR + CJ Watson. That's more fair, especially if we swap picks, too. I guess Love would play center then and make AB expendable. AR would probably play PF for Minny. I can only think Minnesota doesn't want Cousins at center if they're willing to trade the #4. Still, they do not appear to be happy with their duo of Jefferson and Love. I gotta think they want to keep Jefferson because of his improvement. The top three are locked with Wall, Turner and Favors.
They shopped Jefferson around last season. Kahn doesn't feel he fits in and can't co-exist with Kevin Love.
I'd definitely be for trading Randolph for Love for sure, but Randolph for Cousins I wouldn't do. Even if nothing happens, I'm glad that the front office is still working and thinking of actual positive moves.
Yeah, if it were Randolph straight up for the #4 pick, then you have to consider it. But if it's Randolph + #6 for the #4, then that's horrible. If it's Randolph + CJ Watson +#6 for Kevin Love +#4, then yeah that's a pretty tempting move. In fact, yes I would definitely do that!
I don't know Cousins, but taking the Dampier comparison, I hope the Warriors do not do this trade. I was so excited that the team was for sale, but I forgot that Larry Riley is still the GM... Hopefully they don't screw things up too much before the new ownership takes over.
Cousins is better than Dampier. I think Cousins is getting a bad wrap. So, Randolph for the #4 pick while keeping the #6 is something the Warriors need to consider if it means landing Cousins and maybe Wes Johnson. Randolph for Love is also something the Warriors need to consider. Randolph has a high ceiling but he is unproven and raw. Love's ceiling doesn't seem to be very high but he's a prototypical big man the Warriors could use. Love's defense is questionable (from what I heard and saw when Tolliver scorched him for 34) but he does things no other Warrior does.
No wonder the T-Wolves do not want Cousins. He's more Dampier with a big contract than a taller Al Jefferson. From draftexpress: The only concern is his high body fat percentage of 16.3%, which ranks as the 12th-highest figure of any player in our database. By comparison, Mike Sweetney came in at 14.1% and Shaquille O’Neal 12.2%. What’s alarming here is that Cousins is considered to be in the best shape of his life at the moment. I think Cousins will be there at #6 and still would not want him. However, it would be great if the T-Wolves or the Kings grab him. I don't think Wesley Johnson is the answer either as he can't create nor handle the rock. I'd definitely trade AR for Evan Turner though.
#6 for #4 is a waste IMO. What happens if Cousins or Favors falls to us? Trading away Randolph is kind of a gamble if he ever gets it, too. But if we do Randolph for Love it may not be as bad as we think. If we have a guy like Love though, he knows how to play the game the way a post player should. I think he and Curry could be terrific together as they both have very high basketball IQ and they play the right way (for the most part). Love even has a decent 20 foot shot. Usually the more athletic players, such as Randolph, just rely on their athleticism rather than any real skill or craftiness. With Love, he's not soft, he's not that slow for his size and weight, and he's got great hands and a high motor. Randolph was probably in Nelson's dog house for a reason. He either wasn't willing to work hard or wasn't learning or just didn't get it. If Randolph does get it and is a hard working player, I'd worry about giving up somebody like him with that potential. Because if he gets to be a great defender and inside/outside scorer + the ballhandler that he is, we'll be looking so stupid for trading him.
I'd only consider Randolph for Love if their #4 is coming back as well. And even then I'd probably be against it. People are frustrated that Randolph hasn't gotten it all together yet, but he's still so young, I hate to give up on him. Not to mention the injuries and being jerked around in Nelson's circus of nutty offensive schemes (how is Randolph's game supposed to advance when Nelson has him initiating plays with the ball on the perimeter and taking 18' jump shots?). I have to think there's a better deal out there to move up than giving up Randolph. I'd rather trade Monta (along with Azubuike, Morrow, whatever) and move up to #2 for Turner. Or find a way to get #4 (Cousins, Johnson) done without Randolph. The wild card here is Brandan Wright, we still don't really know who he is or what he's capable of because of the injuries. It's really frustrating because it affects who we might go after, whether he's a trade chip or not, and whether we really need to stick by AR.
Randolph + 6 pick for Love + 4 pick is pretty intriguing. Randolph might have more upside but Love is a pretty damn good player himself. Hell of a rebounder, has a decent J, good passer, smart all around and has good skills. Don't forget Love is less than a year older than Randolph- only 21 right now. Being in the top 4 means one of Turner/Favors/Cousins. Being at 6 could very likely mean Monroe/Aminu/etc.
