By Tim Britton / MLB.com TORONTO -- Brett Cecil held the Yankees' bats at bay while Jose Bautista led a Toronto onslaught against A.J. Burnett, as the Blue Jays cruised past New York, 6-1, at Rogers Centre on Friday to halt a five-game win streak. It was the first meeting of the season between the Bombers and their division foes from north of the border, and it didn't take long for the Jays to show the visitors what's lifted them to a surprising start through the season's first two months. Toronto added to its league-leading home run total with three jacks off Burnett, who struggled with his command in taking his third loss of the season. Burnett only gave up six hits in six innings, but three of them left the yard. He surrendered a leadoff home run to Bautista in the second and a two-run shot to the American League's home run leader in the fourth. Both hit off nearly the same spot of the third deck in left field. Edwin Encarnacion added a solo shot in the fifth. All three long balls came after Burnett fell behind 2-0 in the count. Toronto tacked on two in the sixth on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly. Burnett's four walks on the night tied a season-high. Bautista finished the night with three hits, three runs and three RBIs. Cecil, who entered the game with the current Yankees' roster hitting over .500 against him, mixed a hard slider in to right-handers and soft changeup away to flummox New York all evening. Cecil allowed only five hits -- three singles, two doubles -- in eight innings, becoming the first starter to finish eight frames against the Yanks this season. He struck out five and allowed a single earned run. Only once did the Yankees collect multiple hits in an inning. That was the sixth, when Nick Swisher's double play plated a run, but simultaneously short-circuited the rally. Robinson Cano's 17-game hit streak was snapped as the second baseman went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
