1. Disney or Disney-like tween girl becomes famous being cute and innocent. 2. Young Girl branches out into mutliple forms of entertainment (singing, acting, general famewhoring) 3. Young Girl becomes addicted to the fame and begins seeking it out for her fix. 3. Young Girl decides that she needs to show people she's "growing up" and not an innocent little girl anymore by either dating an older man, claiming there's nothing wrong with it, and age is "just a number", or starting to wear more inappropriately suggestive clothing for her age. 4. Growing Up Girl ads more and more sexuality to her "act" to the point of being a trampish slut, alienating her former casual fanbase (but retaining her die-hard ones) and reaching the point where her former handlers/promoters start moving onto the next young tween starlet to promote. 5. As her fame/exposure deminishes, Growing Up Girl desperately ads more and more sexual "shock" value to her act, and turns to drugs/alcohol as a console. 6. Career grinds to a halt as the demons of drugs, alcohol, and the fame obsession catch up with her, and she's forever fruitlessly chasing the glories of her past while watching the next up-and-coming fame-addicted starlet begin the process all over again. How many times have we seen this rerun?
Hillary Duff and Christina Aguilera escaped that mess. Raven didn't do that badly. Even though it wasn't Disney, I think the Olsen twins kind of set the bar for doing the tween thing (and ending up billionaires at 18). Britney and Lindsey are the only ones that I can recall off the top of my head (not really being a Disney channel aficionado) that got into trouble. As long as there are beauty pageants for 3 year olds, and people like Disney willing to pay obscene amounts of cash for next-gen Shirley Temples, you're probably going to keep seeing some subset of that population get into trouble
Really? Where's Duff's career now? She stuck a scorpion down her pants and had an orgasm to it in the last movie I saw her in. And Aguilera? For God's sake, man, she's vamped herself worse than Mariah Carey to sell records, which is a shame because the girl can actually sing. Raven escaped because her popularity wasn't nearly as high due to her weight and skin color. Sucks to say but there it is. Melissa Joan Hart escaped the trap because the internet hadn't yet made these girls the god-like superstars that they are today to their fans. Perhaps the one that came out of the gauntlet the most unscathed was Anne Hathaway. And my God, Miley Cyrus is looking like the train wreck of the century coming up.
I was thinking Jennifer Lover Hewitt as well. You don't hear bad things about her.....I'd like to do bad things to her however.
I think Britney's the Gold Medal Winner there (Lindsay doesn't have 2 kids with a background dancer/rapper that she's trying to "raise"), but that Lindsay is coming on strong.
