Probably. Not that it would have accomplished anything at all, but it would have inoculated him from this particular bit of silliness. barfo
why to say "Hey, your guys fucked up!" Because that will make it get fixed faster? If anything him meeting the CEO would make it look like he is on the CEO's side.
Bingo. A meeting would just be a pointless PR exercise. Now if Palin really wanted action against BP......which I find impossible to believe.......she would be advocating that the FBI show up at his office with an arrest warrant. Of course, that kind of aggressive action would send the tea-baggers into a frenzy. Now that I think about it - that might be the whole point. Try to goad Obama into doing something, and then condemn him for it!
Perhaps, in speaking to the person who's desk is where BP's buck stops, he might find out who's ass to kick. And I bet the President hasn't kicked anyone's ass, ever.
No President should lower himself to a face-to-face with a member of organized crime like Hayward. Big Oil's "access" to our previous Presidents is what got us here.
So we and apparently Palin wants, our President to make hollow and pointless gestures like that? I guess if they keep throwing shit on the wall, something will fit and become a talking point. So..um..yah. Sic 'em, Sarah. Well done, you proved you can be hollow, pointless, and leader among lemmings. I really really hope the Republicans are dumb enough to put their 2012 hopes in that idiots hands.
I agree. When a disaster strikes like this, the President's leadership makes a true difference in how people deal with the situation. Obama has talked fairly tough (check), visited the area (check), but really should meet with more locals and the BP people. Thus far, I'd grade him a C- for leadership on this one.
I love the double standard in this country. Bush got killed by the liberal media for his slow reaction time to hurricane Katrina, but No one says a word about Obama and his slow reaction time to this mess. Maybe they should only hire illegals to work on the oil rigs? Obama seems to care a lot more about them anyway.
Well, the "liberal media" actually has chastised Obama for his slow reaction/response. But his "slow reaction" pales in comparison to Bush's. He was down there before it hit the shore and didn't have a birthday cake with a prominent democrat for a photo op. But admitting that kind of defeats your goal here, so just ignore it like you did when I mentioned the other idiotic partisan things you said (about beauty pageants for example). ...yeah. Ok. well done, you can read talking point emails. Congrats. Speaking of someone who just pukes out his reactionary emails that just simply going to snopes would debunk about 90% of them...where is shooter?
I can't recall a lot of presidents meeting face to face with company leaders to chide them and it doesn't accomplish holding anyone accountable at all... it is just a media photo shoot.
To a certain degree, this is true. But people who are affected by this want to know their top leadership is taking it seriously. It makes a difference. Perhaps Obama thinks that by meeting with BP it might give the sppearance he's making deals or something. But by just ripping BP without talking to them is, to me, poor leadership. Political sound bites to appeal to the masses. Cheap & easy.
