Who are some players living off their older reputations and still get credit they don't deserve anymore? Shaquille O'Neal? Ben Wallace?
Shaq is one of the best centers in the game so I don't think hes living off reputation.Maybe he is gaven to much but he is still a great player.Ben Wallace is still in his prime,he only started getting attention a few years ago when the Pistons won there first championship.I can't really think of anyone who lives off reputation, maybe Peja?
I can agree with Webber,he isn't half as good as he used to be when he was with Sacramento and I knew Marbury will be mentioned,no one has respect or any reputation for that guy anymore.I'll also go ahead and say Tracy Mcgrady, hes been unreliable to his team lately with all those injuries.
Shaq is living off of reputation. He is no longer as dominant. He is not as fit as he was in Orlando or his early days in LA. even though he has lost a lot of weight, it doesn't mean he's fit. He's like 35 years old now, and has to be thinking of how many years he has left in the NBA. He still grabs boards but nothing compared to what he used to. Also he misses a lot of layups lately. Its because hes old, nothing against his career. And because he's so big, people who don't know much about the NBA, assume Shaq's a great defender, when he isnt. He blocks some shots but he isn't like Theo Rattlif or Ben Wallace or Dikembo Mutombo.
Shaq is no longer as dominant as an individual player, but the effect he has on a team still remains. He flat out makes things easier for his teamattes. Its been said time and time again, but the fact is, nobody can handle Shaq if he has position in the interior. You absolutely have to bring a secondary defender, and if you have shooters around him, they are in a position with a good chance to suceed. I think Shaq's individual game has began to regress as he advances in age, but he is still a player who makes a big impact on a game because the defense always has to be wary of him.
There's no such thing as being dominant to your teammates If you're not dominant yourself on the offensive end and can't take over a game, you're not dominant.
I didnt say he was being dominat to his teamattes where do you get that from?? I said he no longer is a dominant individual force but still helps his team out alot the attention he demands from the opposing team.
he's refering to Shaq's ability to draw double teams. I think it's undeniable that Shaq's ability to dominate is waning. But it's also undeniable that he still consistantly draws double teams, and if you've got shooters who are open because of that, that's an asset.
Shaq obviously. Some still regard him as a basketball god and the GOAT in the NBA right now. But the thing is, he gets into foul trouble alot and is injury prone now adays and is rarely dominant or as dominant as he used to be. He is a lot slower now. His age is cathcing up to him. I look for him to retire in the near future. Because once he cant play anymore, he cant play. His reputation would be on the line. I see him retiring after 2 more seasons of 50 games a season.
I do not think Shaq should be on this list at all. He is still the best center in the NBA no question, and even just his presence on the floor is huge. Because of his size and skill, people double, leaving guys like Wade, Williams, Walker, Posey, and Haslem open for a shot. Then people also second guess about cheating off a screen or doubling him. But if you don't double him he can still back down anyone in the NBA and either score or get fouled. Shaq may not be putting up 28/12 anymore, but he is still Shaquille O'Neal, he is still 7'1''/325 lbs., and he is still easily the best center in the NBA.
Shaq is starting to lose his dominance, but I wouldnt say hes living off reputation. hes still the best center in league and still has some of that dominance in him. A player that comes to mind for me is the two Knick guards. Steve Francis and Stephon Marbury. Both are still thought of as stars in the league, but neithrer are playing like it much anymore. A lot of you might not agree w/ this, but what about Lebron James??? I mean people were saying hes the next Michael Jordan before they even saw him play one game in the NBA. I mean his skills are no doubt incredible for his age and hes already became a super star in the league, but he has shown some flaws and so many people still seem to think hes perfect. I know he is a star in this league, but he sure is living off a ton of reputation for being the next MJ, which I dont think hes shown to be yet.

If you watched them, first off he shoots well above 50%, he's the best in the league in FG%...second off the Heat run their entire offense through him. They give him a low iso and either he gets double and passes out for an open shot or gets fouled or makes the basket..Ben Wallace is IMO the best rebounder in the league and the best defender and he's not even considered that great of a player, although he's IMO the MVP of the Pistons.
