Battle House, Mobile, AL. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Battle_House_Hotel http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/mobbr-the-battle-house-renaissance-mobile-hotel-and-spa/ Was on my way to Pensacola for a wedding, and the flights to Mobile were much cheaper. Decided to spring for more than just the normal Holiday Inn/Marriott, and saw this place. The wife absolutely loved the room and bathroom...very clean and vintage. The breakfast was out-of-this-world good. Not much to do in Mobile, but the stay and breakfast was superb. Anyone else have something like this? I'm not talking about staying at the Ritz or something, but a nice surprise you had that you'd totally recommend.
Chateau Lake Louise in Banff, Canadian Rockies. Amazing. probably on the pricy side, it was a while ago but being there was sweet.
I was pretty impressed with this hotel in Vancouver, BC: http://www.lesoleilhotel.com/ Very comfortable, nice staff, great rooms. Location was downtown, a few blocks from Robson which was the only downer.
In our moving experience, we drove across the USA from GA to PDX. Even though we stayed with some friends at their timeshare in Sedona, AZ, one of the absolute highlights of our trip was dining here: http://www.elotecafe.com/ The views of the red rocks were absolutely astounding!!

Just outside of Marseille: Went swimming here back in 99'. Stayed at the hostel in Marseille which was a bit of an adventure.
Yes! Marseille (France in general) have some of the best roads for driving. Take a visit on the Eurostar.
