Not that there was ever a doubt, but A.J. Foyt was announced Saturday as the legendary driver whose name will be on the oval-track championship trophy to be awarded annually by the Izod IndyCar Series.

Foyt was the first driver to win four Indianapolis 500s, and is the only driver to have won seven season titles. Sixty-four of his 67 wins were on oval tracks.

"I don't know about 'legend,' " Foyt said in being honored at Texas Motor Speedway. "I'm just old A.J., too old and too fat to get in (a race car)."

Foyt was selected by IndyCar fans on the series' website. Randy Bernard, who became the sport's chief executive officer in February, indicated Foyt was his choice, too.
