There are some bands I think are now, on the road to greatness. For example my favorite band Linkin Park. Linkin Park is a hybrid of rock and rap which makes them so interesting. Every song of theirs on their albums are good, the songs are catchy and they appeal to all music listeners (rock fans and rap fans) Also, Disturbed, because they are like the LP band for the, "tough guy". They are a lot like Metallica. They find topics on things very tnteresting that THEY find interesting and make songs about it. And they do it without even speaking to you. Like, they're singing a song but they're reciting a poem, they're not talking to you, which is good to see in a modern day band. Bands like Limp Bizkit just keep on talking and talking. Bands like LP and Disturbed sing stuff like poems. these are my two favorite bands, btw.
Bands nowdays seem to fade out after 2-3 albums and fans have short attention spans, I don't see any current bands being noted as some of the best of all-time because rock fans now just seem to love all the old stuff.
i dunno...i grow tired of Linkin Park albums after 2 listens. I like Disturbed, listen to them a lot, but I wouldn't rate them that high by any means. They're music is catchy and has a nice drive to it. But if you're looking for more poetic music, listen to Thrice or Opeth.
Only band that i can think that is on its way to greatness from the modern area is Weezer. Weezer imo is head and shoulders above the competion. Weezer has 5 albums out that have sold a ton. I dont have the numbers, but oh well. The Green album, blue album and Make Believe are just grand. My favorite is the Green Album. Rivers Cuomo (lead singer/lyricist) is just great. He is able to right some of the best music i've heard in the 90's/2000's. His songs are so damn catchy too. Also, Foo Fighters just came to mind. They are plenty awesome too. Dave Grohl is a great frontman and writes great songs. i loved him in Nirvana as well. I honestly cant think of any other bands from today that are "GREAT." Plenty that are okay, but not on the road to greatness like your asking.
Disturbed's songs actually mean things, unlike all that preppy music and all those annoying bands. LP's new album is comin out sometime this year.

sorry, that wasn't refering to your post, i didn't see that one when i replied. And i don't think it's spam in this instance. It's a valid response to someone claiming that Weezer is on the road to greatness.

Weezer is a great band. And i'm not sure, but if your calling Weezer a preppy band, you missed the whole point of Beverly Hills. Weezer started out as a alternative rock band with punk roots and they have stayed that way, they havent sold out and become preppy. I'm just guessing that you've never actually listened to an actual Weezer album, just listen to them on the radio. :no3:And anyone who thinks LP or Limp Bizkit must not listen to a ton of music because they arent even close to the road of greatness. Limp Bizkit just butchered great Who songs and made them into sh*t when they covered them. Behind Blue Eyes, and My Generation were and are classics when The Who sings them, but if i was Roger Dalthry, i would punch Fred Durst for making my music into sh*t.
I was talking about Weezer either! lol. I wasn't talking about any band that anybody mentioned. a lot of bands that are emo or preppy are being mentioned among great bands (around other boards, school, some of my preppy friends)

I just thought that you meant that Weezer turned into a preppy band becuase they got a ton of radio air when Beverly Hills came out.\Yeah i agree, emo bands shouldnt be even considered for this. My Chemical Romance, and what not are just sh*t in my opinion. :thumbdn1: :thumbdn1:
well even if i personally disagree, i'm not gonna argue you liking Weezer, that would be stupid. I am however, gonna argue them being 'on the road to greatness' And you definitely won't hear me calling some preppy band on said road either.a 'great' band by my definition (and definitions vary) is one that is truly unique and influences many other artists. It's hard to really pinpoint them, but i'd list bands like Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Deep Purple, Cream, Led Zeppelin, Carlos Santana, Pink Floyd, Metallica.Out of all the contemporary bands the only one I can think of would be Tool. They don't have mass appeal, but that's not what it's about. Their style is truly unique and if you listen closely, you'll find dozens, and dozens of bands who have incorporated their style into their music.

I don't think many of the bands mentioned on this list will go down as great bands in history. Especially not Linkin Park.also, I don't know many true fans of rap/Hip-Hop that like Linkin Park.
and i don't know many true fans of rock who like linkin park. Linkin Park are a band for all those many people in between both camps i think,
Metallica is up there. LP will be up there once they get more albums out there.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (trans@lantic @ May 17 2006, 05:48 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>and i don't know many true fans of rock who like linkin park. And im a true fan of rock, and LP at the same time.
In terms of sales and popularity, Linkin Park is already "great." Although I dispise their music, I do believe that they had one album that sold so much it reached Top 100 status. Coldplay is a band that's definately becoming great, because it appeals to basolutely everyone
Disturbed makes good music that just can explain human emotions. David Draiman (lead vocalist) has had some bad experiances in life, so he takes it out in his music.

I'm a laid back guy in the first place all the new emo sh*t is horrible, period. And although I'm sure those metal/hard rock bands are good they just don't appeal to me.
I hate the vast majority of new music, with very exceptions. I'm only currently looking forward to one new album (the new Dre CD) and other than that I don't give a sh*t about anything, it all sucks. I love 90s rock, rap from a few producers (I don't care about the artists that much, which is the problem with hip-hop today) and some newer rock, but not much.
