"The Bulls selected Tom Thibodeau to be their next coach mainly because of his body of work in the NBA over the last 20 years, but his work during an early coaching job nearly 25 years ago might have played a role in his hiring, as well. Back in the mid-1980s, Thibodeau was a young assistant at Harvard and worked closely with a player named Arne Duncan -- the same Arne Duncan who's the secretary of education and the former CEO of Chicago Public Schools. Every chance he got recently, Duncan let Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf know what he thought of Thibodeau. ''I'm so thrilled that this worked out,'' Duncan said Wednesday by telephone from his office in Washington. ''I've been talking with Mr. Reinsdorf about coach Thibodeau for the last couple of years. ''I think he can do an amazing job. He's an incredibly hard worker. He'll put in the time watching tape, he'll put in the time working on strategy and he'll put a huge amount of time on individual player development.'' Thibodeau was only 25 when he joined the Harvard staff in 1985, but Duncan credits him with helping him improve enough in two years to get an invite to training camp with the Boston Celtics and a four-year professional career in Australia." http://www.suntimes.com/sports/basketball/bulls/2376746,CST-SPT-bull10.article
I did...three? lol And i thought arne spelled his first name with an I in it, so I didnt recognize it at first who it was until they mentioned former ceo of cps
On the other hand, how many Cabinet members actively campaign for a basketball coach? That's at least a little bit cool.
I think pretty much all of them do. That's their job, right? To spend all their time calling in favors for their Harvard chums and talking about sports? And the parties, let's nit forget all the official partying!
