Drogba's participation in the World Cup is in serious doubt after he fractured his elbow during their 2-0 win over Japan today. Drogba collided with Japan defender Tanaka 16 minutes into the game. There was nothing malicious in the incident. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/world_cup_2010/8722701.stm
Yep, huge blow for Ivory Coast. This changes my previous prediction: Portugal and Brazil will qualify.
Broken arm, I could see him giving it a shot. But a broken elbow just seems different. The cast would probably keep his arm bent and that's not going to help him with balance in running, making moves, or kicking. I also don't think he could find one that would be legal and not completely screw up his elbow.
If it's an arm, I'm sure he'd be fine but an elbow is a different story like Agoo said. I know in the FIFA rules, you aren't allowed to play w/ hard casts or anything not soft. So if it's his elbow, he is done.
I wrote about Tulio about three years ago on here. The guy is an extremely aggressive and very talented player. He's scores with ease with one of the most accurate head shots in the game today. Probably the world's most underrated central defender. As for Drogba, I'm sure he'll still play sometime in this tournament. Most likely against Brazil and Portugal where he's needed the most.
