Magic general manager Otis Smith said on Friday that the team will do their best to retain guard J.J. Redick and forward Matt Barnes.

Barnes has said that he'll opt out of his contract and Redick will be a restricted free agent.

Smith told the Orlando Sentinel that he will gauge the value of players based on the entire season, not simply the playoffs.

"I use the entire season, not just one thing or another," Smith said. "So I think the moves that I made are fine. I don’t think the moves I made had anything to do with anything. We didn't have as successful a postseason as you would have liked. We get better, come back."

We better keep at least 1 of these 2. It'll be interesting to see what Otis does. Hopefully we match JJ's offer then split the MLE on Barnes and CJ Watson or another young PG. I've come to terms that we probably won't be making any big moves and the team we saw last year will be the same team we see this year, which may not be that bad of a thing if Dwight plays like he did in the last 3 games all season.

They're speculating out here in LA the Magic could sign Jordan Farmar this summer to be the backup.
