Lakers assistant coach Brian Shaw has been mentioned a lot recently because there were so many head-coaching vacancies. Shaw hasn't received any interviews and that's fine with him. Shaw said earlier this week that he's OK waiting for the right opportunity. That could occur next season if Phil Jackson and the Lakers can't hash out a new deal. Many think Shaw will succeed Jackson when he decides to retire. Kobe Bryant played with Shaw and thinks he will make a good coach. "He's always been a great basketball mind," Bryant told The New York Times. "Always. It was just a matter of him being on the floor to being on the bench." Asked if Shaw is ready to be a head coach, Bryant said, "I think he'd be up for the challenge, no question." There are only three vacancies left after the Nets came to an agreement with Avery Johnson. However the Hawks are close to making a decision and the Cavs are leaning toward Tom Izzo and Byron Scott. That leaves the Clippers as the last opening. Shaw has been patient, but he may look at Donald Sterling's team if Jackson is retained by the Lakers, or he'll stay with his current job and continue to be patient for the right job. "I feel like I'm ready," Shaw said. "I've been preparing for this. I've played against, been around, played for, coached with the best people that I could possibly be around to prepare for it. ... But I'm not impatient. That's one of the things I've learned from being around Phil, as well." Source: NY Times
If we don't beat Boston, Phil's most likely retiring. Wouldn't mind B-Shaw taking over, though his lack of experience sort of worries me. However there's nobody out on the market that I want coaching this team. And please say no to Byron Scott, he's good for one year and then teams just tune him out.
