www.espn.comLOS ANGELES -- Elgin Baylor, the Los Angeles Clippers' vice president of basketball operations since 1986, has been selected the NBA's Executive of the Year in voting by 45 league executives.Baylor received 15 votes to eight for Toronto's Bryan Colangelo, who finished second in the voting.Baylor will be presented with the award by Stan McNeal of the Sporting News before Game 6 of the Western Conference semifinals against Phoenix on Thursday night. The Clippers, longtime NBA doormats, finished the regular season with a 47-35 record -- their best since the 1974-75 season, when they played in Buffalo and won a franchise-record 49 games. The Clippers qualified for the playoffs for the first time in nine years and reached the second round for the first time since 1976. They trail the Phoenix Suns 3-2 in the Western Conference semifinals.Baylor provided the Clippers with their starting backcourt last summer, acquiring Sam Cassell in a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves and signing Cuttino Mobley to a free-agent contract.

It would happen.....He added a bunch of key guys and turned the Clippers into a playoff team for the first time in forever. Without a doubt his best move was bringing in Sam Cassell and CutinoMobley. Cassell is the veteran leader that team desperatly needed. He is putting up great stats to go along with his leadership. Hes shattering his last season numbers.Alot of people criticized Baylor for bringing in Cutino Mobley. They didnt think he would fit in well with the Clippers. Man were they DEAD wrong. He has been an awesome addition. Hes getting the best assist and rebounding numbers of his career. For the first time ever he looks to pass. I dont feel any GM did as good as job as Elgin Baylor this season. He made the moves despite what the media said and its paying off.

Who thought Cuttino wouldn't be a good fit? He's always been a good player.

I remeber countless "Analysts" saying he would have a horrible season with LA because he liked it in Sacramento. I remeember them saying Baylor would be wasting his time on a player who isn't going to try 100%.

I think he did a great job. Props to him. He really balanced out that line up by getting 2 veteran guards who know how to win and how to shoot the basketball. He really helped that team become one of the best offensive teams in the NBA. Look at them now, they could go to the WCF. Look at them last year. So yeah, he deserves it. He really found the missing pieces there.

I'm Elgin's successor..... in the sim league.Props to him for bringing the NBA team with the worst luck to winning a playoff series and taking it to the Suns. Cassell signing was huge, and the Mobley signing was really underrated. The Vlad Radmonovic/Chris Wilcox trade wasn't too bad for the Clipps. Wilcox wouldn't have done what he did in Seattle with Brand starting. Vlad did well for the remainder of the year.

When you take one of the worst teams in the NBA and turn them to a second round playoff team you deserve some credit.Bringing in Cassel was a huge piece for this team.Brand alone couldn't carry the team and now has Corey Maggette and Cutitno Mobley to help him carry the load.He was the right choice for this award.
